Field Service Technician
Summary
To provide onsite calibration of test equipment for customers. Also, will have the opportunity to support the local Transcat laboratory when not traveling.
Major Areas of Responsibility
- Calibrate measurement and test equipment (M&TE) to manufacture specifications
- Determine out of tolerance conditions for customer M&TE and calibration standards
- Provide corrective action (i.e., adjustments, minor repairs) for out of tolerance conditions
- Update and maintain proper documentation of services
- Provide customer with information regarding other services and new equipment provided by Transcat
- Maintain calibration standards
- Provide feedback and updates regarding calibration practices and procedures
- Proficiency in submitting and updating required paperwork for travel and administrative purposes
- Other duties as assigned
Travel Requirements
Combination of local travel, using company vehicle, and overnight travel, as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Calibration experience and/or equivalent training with commercial and/or biomedical measurement and test equipment (M&TE)
- Self-motivator requiring little or no supervision
- Customer service oriented
- Ability to interact with customers & coworkers in a professional manner
- Proficiency with MS Office and the internet; familiarity with basic database functionality
- 3+ years driving experience with a valid driver’s license and acceptable driver history
- Comfortable driving in all climates
Education And Experience
- Associate degree from college or technical school
- or 2-5 years of related field experience and/or training
- or equivalent combination of education and experience
Desired Experience/ Skills
- Military PMEL training
- Strong attention to detail - able to follow written instructions
- Ability to plan and prioritize diversified workload and work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Physical Demands
- While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear
- The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle tools and equipment
- The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Able to lift 50 pounds and maneuver a 1,000-pound cart from unloading area to customer designated service area
- Occasionally will be required to lift upwards of 75lbs
Work Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock
- The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts
- The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions and vibration
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
