Field Service Technician

About the role

TDS Telecom is dedicated to strengthening communities through cutting-edge fiber internet technology. This position requires direct, face-to-face interaction with customers and involves assisting with on-site installations, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of telecommunications products and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Aids in on-site installations, troubleshooting, testing, splicing, repairing, and maintaining telephone equipment and network equipment.
• Locates and repairs cable issues, including buried, aerial, underground, and customer cable.
• Performs pole climbing and operates construction equipment as needed.
• Identifies and marks company facilities to prevent damage during construction.
• Keeps an orderly log of locate requests and conducts cable fault acceptance tests.
• Provides excellent customer service and proactively educates customers on TDS products and services.
• Understands and applies RUS Standards and grounding practices.

Qualifications

• Maintain a valid driver's license.
• Must follow TDS attendance guidelines.
• Successfully complete customer-specific requirements, including a background check.
• Available for on-call/standby responsibilities and occasional travel.
• Pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
• A+ certification and computer networking experience.
• Gain understanding of telecommunication products and services.
• Practical knowledge/experience with computer applications.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions.
• Strong customer service and sales skills.
• Proven organizational skills and multitasking ability.
• Ability to operate vehicles with manual transmissions.
