About the role

The primary objectives of the Field Service Technician are:

  • Proficient repair and service of customer equipment
  • Maintain good communication and working relationships with customers, peers, and management
  • Represent and sell the entire company
  • Maintain and exceed productivity goals
  • Work within all safety guidelines established by Raymond West and OSHA

Responsibilities

  • Repair all types of equipment that Raymond West sells and services
  • Update training and skills on a continuing basis
  • Train other employees as needed
  • Maintain a profitable billing level
  • Follow all Service Department procedures
  • Communicate with assigned Field Supervisor
  • Complete all paperwork transactions in a timely, neat, accurate, and orderly fashion
  • Communicate all options to customers before proceeding with work
  • Have the necessary tools to perform repair and scheduled service work
  • Complete jobs within quoted time limits when applicable
  • Maintain a clean and orderly (inside and outside) vehicle
  • Maintain an accurate assigned parts inventory, if applicable
  • Always represent the entire company
  • Pass Raymond Certification and re-certification if applicable
  • Maintain good working knowledge of customers and equipment in assigned areas
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record as established by the company’s insurance carrier
  • Report accidents whether self or customer
  • Account for 100% of available time during working hours
  • Be willing to work overtime when necessary and coordinate all overtime with assigned supervisor
  • Follow all procedures in the company’s Employee Handbook
  • Follow safety procedures and use good judgment in regard to safety
  • Be willing to work out of town as necessary
  • Establish a positive rapport with customers
  • Perform other specific duties and projects as assigned by the Service Supervisors or Managers

Requirements

  • High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years breakdown experience or comparable service experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Raymond Level 1 Certified or working towards that goal, if applicable
  • Valid driver’s license with no more than the allowable level of points on record, if applicable
  • Must be able to be insured by Raymond West
  • Must possess a working knowledge of basic D.C. electricity, basic A.C. electricity, internal combustion, and diesel engines
  • Must have working knowledge of hydraulic systems and mechanical abilities
  • Maintain personally owned tools according to approved minimum tool list and additional tools as required by duties and certification level
  • Must be able to take direction and be a team player
  • Must maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance
  • Willing and able to learn quickly and perform accurately and neatly with a degree of flexibility
  • Motivated to continuous self-development and training
  • Willing to assume more responsibility as required

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and similar software
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, co-workers, and managers in other departments
  • Must be willing to work off-hours as specific needs dictate
  • Must be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner
  • Must be self-motivated and able to manage time efficiently
  • Must be customer-oriented and exhibit professional behavior at all times
  • Willing to follow mandates and procedures of the Service Department
  • Ability to deal with customers on a face-to-face basis
  • Maintain a sound working relationship with other technicians and fellow workers
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

Schedule

  • This position will be based in the field and require daily travel within assigned territories
  • Must be willing to work overtime when necessary
  • Must be willing to work out of town as necessary

Physical Requirements

  • Position is non-sedentary
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
  • Required to go onto job sites where construction is underway
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally required to smell
  • Requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
  • Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration
  • The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud

Pay

The hourly range for this position is $18.00 - $50.00. The specific pay offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location.

Qualified candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
