Field Service Technician
About the Role
Raymond West is looking for a dynamic Field Service Technician to join the Service team. The Field Service Technician will service, troubleshoot, and repair all makes of material handling equipment at customer locations. This role offers the opportunity to work independently while being part of a collaborative team, develop lasting customer relationships, and work for a company with a long-standing commitment to customer, employee, and vendor satisfaction. Technicians are provided with a company-supplied van and gas card.
Responsibilities
- Repair all types of equipment that Raymond West sells and services.
- Update training and skills on a continuing basis.
- Train other employees as needed.
- Maintain a profitable billing level.
- Follow all Service Department procedures.
- Communicate with assigned Field Supervisor.
- Complete all paperwork transactions in a timely, neat, accurate, and orderly fashion.
- Communicate all options to customers before proceeding with work.
- Have the necessary tools to perform repair and scheduled service work.
- Complete jobs within quoted time limits when applicable.
- Maintain a clean and orderly (inside and outside) vehicle.
- Maintain an accurate assigned parts inventory, if applicable.
- Represent the entire company at all times.
- Pass Raymond Certification and re-certification if applicable.
- Maintain good working knowledge of customers and equipment in assigned areas.
- Maintain an acceptable driving record as established by the company’s insurance carrier.
- Report accidents whether self or customer.
- Account for 100% of available time during working hours.
- Be willing to work overtime when necessary and coordinate all overtime with assigned supervisor.
- Follow all procedures in the company’s Employee Handbook.
- Follow safety procedures and use good judgment in regard to safety.
- Be willing to work out of town as necessary.
- Establish a positive rapport with customers.
- Perform other specific duties and projects as assigned by the Service Supervisors or Managers.
Requirements
- High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years breakdown experience or comparable service experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior mechanical work experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of basic D.C. electricity, basic A.C. electricity, internal combustion, and diesel engines.
- Working knowledge of hydraulic systems.
- Mechanical abilities.
- Raymond Level 1 Certified or working towards that goal, if applicable.
- Valid driver’s license with no more than the allowable level of points on record, if applicable.
- Maintain personally owned tools according to approved minimum tool list and additional tools as required by duties and certification level.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
Skills

Travel
This position will be based in the field and require daily travel within assigned territories. Technicians will be provided a company vehicle and a company Fuel Card to pay for vehicle expenses. Must be able to be insured by Raymond West.
Physical Requirements
- Position is non-sedentary.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Required to go onto job sites where construction is underway.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to smell.
- Requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud.
Pay
The hourly range for this position is $20.60 - $50.63. The specific pay offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location.
