About the role

The Field Service Technician at Blanchard Machinery Company is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of heavy machinery, including diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and electrical components. This role demands a strong foundation in troubleshooting and repair procedures, along with the ability to work independently and under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, diagnose, and repair various types of heavy equipment, including diesel engines, transmissions, drive train components, winches, high pressure pumps, centrifugal pumps, air compressors, microprocessor controls, electro-mechanical equipment, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, gearboxes, PTO's, 12/24v electrical systems, equipment cabs and controls, chassis and suspension, A/C systems, etc.
  • Perform inspections and basic troubleshooting on electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Install and/or replace new or reconditioned repair parts.
  • Test equipment for proper operation.
  • Ensure total customer service by performing duties in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
  • Perform shift work, weekends, and 24-hour calls as needed.
  • Operate lifting devices and perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of experience working on heavy equipment required.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
  • Must have a complete set of tools capable of working in and around heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and proper repair procedures is required.
  • Must be able to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, operating and maintenance service manuals.
  • Organizational and time management skills required.
  • Must have the ability to set and keep priorities and professionally handle the stress associated with dealing with a fast-paced industry and deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and detailed oriented with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Qualifications

  • High degree of interpersonal skills with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Personal discipline to establish the proper image as a representative of Blanchard.
  • Professionalism in interacting with customers.

Skills

  • Basic troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
  • Component replacement.
  • Diagnostic equipment (Cat ET, CAT-SIS).
  • Familiarization of electronic cables, connections, and sensors.
  • Preparation of parts requisitions, timecards, part returns, service reports, and other necessary reports and forms.
  • Maintenance of the service truck and equipment carried on the service truck.
  • Use of computer and other forms of technology to complete job responsibilities.
