About the role
We are looking for a Field Service Technician to install and service on-site nitrogen generation plants and bulk medical or industrial gas systems safely and effectively, adhering to all federal, state, and local codes, as well as Airgas policies.
- Support installation and upkeep of nitrogen on-site generation equipment.
- Assist with cryogenic bulk installations at Airgas facilities and customer sites.
- Restore and optimize pressure reduction equipment for bulk delivery systems.
- Evaluate and provide solutions for electrical systems associated with N2 generation and cryogenic installations, including motor controls, relays, and alarm systems.
- Install decals and warning signs for hazard identification, operational settings, and emergency contacts.
- Perform piping system installations according to company SOPs.
- Conduct site surveys to ensure compliance with codes.
- Provide fencing to secure installations from tampering or unauthorized access.
- Perform preventative maintenance on N2 generation equipment based on the PM schedule.
- Conduct annual inspections of bulk installation sites to ensure operational excellence.
- Uphold safety policies and procedures to maintain a secure workplace.
- Maintain an appropriate stock of recommended parts for typical installations within the assigned customer base.
- Collaborate on additional projects as needed.
Responsibilities
- Respond to emergencies at facilities during operational hours; arrangements for coverage are made when unavailable for personal reasons or paid time off.
- Read and interpret safety rules, material safety data sheets, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Perform mathematical calculations related to job duties.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Minimum of two years of industrial field service experience, preferably in gas generation systems.
- Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Clear and effective communication skills for explaining information to customers and employees.
- Ability to set goals, manage time, and execute multiple tasks or priorities.
- Independent judgment and initiative in problem-solving and making recommendations.
- Tact and diplomacy in dealing with internal and external customers; handling proprietary information.
- Self-motivation, enthusiasm, positive attitude, and teamwork.
- Frequent use of computer, telephone, and motor vehicle.
- Ability to move/transport materials weighing 25-75 pounds, involving bending, twisting, and reaching.
- Perform physical maneuvers such as climbing stairs, ladders, and truck beds.
- Work outdoors in a wide range of temperatures.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock.
- Reliable, appropriate transportation; service truck provided after initial training phase.
- Must obtain a Certified Brazer Certificate within 30 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Detailed understanding of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 99 and NFPA 55 requirements.
- Knowledge of cryogenic and high-pressure gases, including products, containers, and piping systems.
- Hands-on experience with cryogenic equipment, pressure piping, compressors, and pumps.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot system problems.
- Working knowledge of welding and brazing processes, specifically silver brazing.
- Ability to perform regulator repairs and fix piping/liquid leaks.
