Field Service Tech (E)
About the Role
We are seeking a Field Service Technician to join our Lifecycle Services team. In this role, you will maintain, diagnose, repair, service, and upkeep conveyor-driven automated sorting systems for parcels. This position requires experience with both mechanical and electrical preventative maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and strong customer service working on customers’ material handling equipment. Relevant experience may include industrial equipment or similar conveyor-driven systems within material handling or e-commerce.
Responsibilities
- Quickly and efficiently resolve customer issues to maintain maximum uptime.
- Instruct and offer solutions or training to less experienced field technicians.
- Maintain customer equipment by scheduling and performing regular preventive maintenance inspections.
- Work with support personnel to install new equipment and perform equipment upgrades.
- Properly control company assets by managing parts inventory and on-site tools.
- Maintain an exceptional level of customer satisfaction through cooperative and supportive communication.
- Promptly review service updates, bulletins, installation/retrofit instructions, and system machine schematics, taking recommended action as needed.
- Enhance value to the company by staying technically current, including attending continuing education courses in networking, software, etc.
- Respond to emergency and non-scheduled service calls within established response time goals.
- Identify new ways to improve the timeliness and quality of service provided.
- Be knowledgeable in customer processes and procedures, including sort plans and IMB requirements.
- Understand the methods used for generating paperwork and dispatching products.
Requirements
- Flexible to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong electronics/electrical background.
- Solid mechanical knowledge.
- Ability to apply software skills and knowledge to equipment.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools and measuring equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, DMM).
- Ability to read technical drawings and documentation.
- Full range of motion and unrestricted mobility.
- Ability to lift 50-75 lbs.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Good time management skills.
- Strong customer relations skills.
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication.
- Ability to carry out detailed written and verbal instructions independently.
- Ability to persuade/influence others in sensitive or confrontational situations.
- Basic computer skills: DOS, Windows, UNIX, Microsoft Office.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent work experience.
- Preferred: 2-year degree or certification in electronics, advanced mechanics, or software training.
- 5+ years of related industry/equipment experience.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
