Field Service Operations - Superintendent Engineer

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Provides technical service installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, overhauls and modernization for engines and turbochargers manufactured by the company and affiliated companies on seagoing vessels and power plants.
  • Provides technical advice; provide training and service program information including follow-up to previously visited vessels as well as engine related support to our customers.
  • Directs and supervises work performed by outside contractors in repair of the company’s engines.
  • Aids workshops in technical matters as required, assists in the collection of receivables, establishes and maintains good business relations and communication with all customers.
  • Maintains a good business relation and communication with all customers while performing all duties.
  • To be up-to-date with and to implement internal technical modifications and information.
  • Requires intensive travelling via car, train, plane, launch boat, and in extreme cases via helicopter at short notice and the ability to be flexible changing plans to comply with professional circumstances and exigencies.
  • Performs other duties assigned.
  • File and organize documents and appropriated folders.
  • Assure to follow internal Everllence USA rules and regulations.
  • Supports the sales activities and brings technical advice to generate new business opportunities together with the sales team and workshop managers and coordinators.
  • Supports customer inquiries (email and phone calls) when needed, i.e. emergency calls after hours, review data, pictures sent by customer and revert with recommendations etc.
  • Supports the workshop employees' trainings to improve their knowledge.
  • Ensures that all tools and equipment from the customer side and internal is reliable and safe to use for a service job.
  • Shares best practices with his team of mechanics before and after any service.
  • Identifies any safety risk in the field and reports it to customer to get it addressed.
  • Ensures the proper usage of all special tools.
  • Follows technical procedures from manuals.
  • Supervises his team of mechanics to ensure high quality and safety of works done.
  • Documents all events and procedures used in a service.
  • Ensures the correct usage of PPE for him and his team.
  • Uses the right to stop working when safety or quality of the work is compromised.
  • When job requires more than 12h of work, informs and coordinates with general manager in case extra hours need to be approved.
  • Responsible for tracking all working hours and reporting within the required period.
  • This is to include hours for any service technicians who may be assigned to various field service works as applicable.
  • Upon completion of service works, superintendent engineers are to finalize their expense reports, timesheets and allocations within a reasonable amount of time, and provide it to the order management team for invoicing.
  • Ensures that all expense reports be submitted at least on an agreed periodicity weekly or monthly basis and all expenses are to be allocated accordingly to the appropriate job numbers in the Concur system.
  • Always looks at the most economical travel options for the customer, considering, cost of the airfare, traveling time, hotels costs etc.
  • Ensures the usage of the corporate credit card only for jobs related expenses.
  • When tools need to be purchased on the jobs, informs and obtains approval from manager prior purchase.

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, marine or mechanical engineering preferred or acceptable to meet the requirements of education or experience.

Required Experience

  • Four or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to work in wet, humid, hot conditions, near moving mechanical parts, in high precarious places.
  • Working in an engine room where other engines are running, and dealing with high temperatures, humidity, vibrations, and loud noises.
