Field Service Engineer II (Electron Microscopy) (NYC Remote)

About the role

The Materials and Structural Analysis Electron Microscopy (M&SA EM) business at Thermo Fisher Scientific enables customers to accelerate breakthrough discoveries and solve global challenges through advanced microscopy technologies.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site installation of sophisticated equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure accurate working order
• Conduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits
• Provide diagnosis and repair support for customers and other field personnel
• Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users, and company personnel
• Travel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems or support other field service personnel
• Complete and submit field service reports
• Provide training to customers and users on system maintenance
• Provide feedback to product quality teams
• Provide appropriate input in writing updating and correcting various Thermo Fisher system documentation
• Act as a subject expert and resource for training

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related technical field or 3+ years equivalent education and experience in electronic systems including hands-on technical experience installing, solving, repairing, and calibrating sophisticated analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar systems.
• A detailed understanding and extensive experience diagnosing and repairing ultra-high vacuum and high voltage systems.

Skills

• Ability to deal effectively with customers
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills; must have a professional working proficiency in English
• Literate in MS DOS and Windows software environments
• Able to read and interpret schematics
• Familiar with UHV phenomenon and technology

Abilities

• Must have ability to acquire a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required
• Must possess a valid driver’s license

Physical requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Able to walk a minimum of 10k steps per day

Pay

The hourly pay range for this position in New York is $34.61–$51.92.
