About the Role

Shape the future of energy as a Field Service Engineer in Training at Siemens Energy. This industry-leading program offers a unique blend of classroom instruction, hands-on technical training, and real-world field experience. You’ll travel to power plants across North America, working with some of the largest and most advanced turbines and generators in the world. Collaborate with experienced engineers to support critical energy infrastructure and gain the skills to become a recognized field engineering expert. Every project is unique, each day presents new challenges, and your contributions directly support reliable energy generation.

Responsibilities

  • Complete 12 months of classroom and instructor-led training in Orlando, FL and Houston, TX (Deer Park), followed by on-the-job training with expert engineers at multiple customer sites across the U.S.
  • Develop skills in equipment operation, maintenance, job site safety, project management, leadership, and Siemens Energy’s business systems through hands-on experience.
  • Supervise technicians and mechanics during planned and unplanned power plant maintenance shutdowns, including disassembling, inspecting, and reassembling turbines and generators.
  • Coordinate upgrades of mechanical and electrical systems on turbine generators to increase power output and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with worldwide engineering staff to perform niche mechanical and electrical testing.
  • Serve as the primary customer contact during outages, ensuring timely and accurate repairs.
  • Travel throughout North America to support maintenance, inspections, repairs, upgrades, and commissioning activities on gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Assist with equipment disassembly, inspection, troubleshooting, and reassembly.
  • Collaborate closely with customers, field technicians, engineers, and service teams to develop expertise in power generation systems and field engineering practices.
  • Learn project management, technical leadership, safety, and customer engagement skills.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field is required by your start date (January or February 2027).
  • Ability to solve complex technical challenges through a combination of engineering knowledge and hands-on work.
  • Self-starting leadership skills, utilizing all available resources to guide others in building innovative solutions.
  • Willingness to travel 200–250 days per year, with deployments ranging from 2 to 15 weeks at a time, including extended hours (12–14 hours per day, weekends, and holidays) and a typical work week of 60–84 hours.
  • Physical ability to ascend and descend ladders, work in confined spaces, lift up to 40 pounds, endure outdoor weather conditions, walk long distances, and share cramped office trailers.
  • Legally authorized for employment in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, as driving is an essential job function.

  • Military Talent: Navy Nuclear, Aviation Maintenance, Power Generation Specialists, Mechanical Technicians, Electrical Technicians, and veterans transitioning into civilian careers.

Locations

Priority hiring locations after training: Chicago, Philadelphia, Las Vegas. Other locations include Dallas, Boston, Chattanooga, Atlanta, Jensen Beach, Charlotte, Kansas, Milwaukee, Denver, Sacramento, Orlando, Houston, and Pittsburgh.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $72,000–$79,000. Specific offers are determined by factors such as experience, skills, certifications, and other business needs. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on individual qualifications. In addition to a competitive base salary, eligible employees may benefit from overtime earning opportunities, premium holiday pay, daily per diem, travel-related compensation, annual performance incentives, and referral bonuses.
