About the role
Flare Construction is seeking a Field Safety Representative based out of our Coalville, Utah office. This role provides regional safety coverage across active project sites in Utah and surrounding states, with approximately 75% travel to worksites as project needs require. When not deployed to an active project location, this position is expected to be in the Coalville office.
Responsibilities
- Travel to active project sites across Utah and surrounding states (approximately 75% of time); report to the Coalville office when not deployed to a project location.
- Monitor site operations for unsafe work practices and intervene proactively; execute Stop Work Authority immediately when a safety violation or unmitigated hazard is present.
- Conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) assessments, partnering with project leadership to anticipate, identify, evaluate, and correct hazardous conditions and practices.
- Inspect job sites for compliance with OSHA, DOT/PHMSA, DOT/FMCSA, and company/client requirements; document findings and coordinate corrective actions.
- Perform weekly safety audits using the Quanta Services Capacity Model to support continuous improvement across covered projects.
- Train and orient field staff on safety programs, policies, and site-specific requirements; lead and contribute to weekly safety meetings at project locations.
- Collect, maintain, and track safety documentation from field staff using HCSS construction software and electronic record-keeping methods.
- Assist the Safety Manager with incident prevention, incident reporting, and investigation support across the regional project portfolio.
- Manage inventory and distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); monitor appropriate use across all field personnel at assigned sites.
- Clock with Safety Manager and project teams from the Coalville office during non-field periods to support planning, reporting, and administrative safety functions.
Requirements
- 2-5 years of field construction safety experience; civil, excavation, trenching, or pipeline experience preferred
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification (or must obtain within 90 days of hire)
- First-Aid/CPR/AED certification required
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record
- Demonstrated technical knowledge of OSHA 1926 construction standards and related safety regulations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with web-based tracking software
- Knowledge or ability to learn HCSS construction software
- Ability to build professional relationships with crew members, supervision, and client project personnel
- Must be willing to travel approximately 75% of the time to project sites in Utah and surrounding states; must report to Coalville office when not at a project location
Preferred
- Associate degree or coursework in Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, or related field
- Additional safety certifications (CHST, STSC, or equivalent)
- DOT/PHMSA and DOT/FMCSA regulatory experience
- Familiarity with Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, and Nevada construction and pipeline regulatory environments
