Key Responsibilities
- Lead routine job site inspections, audits, and field safety observations to ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and client safety requirements.
- Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and work with project management to develop and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor high-risk work activities, including excavation, confined space entry, crane operations, traffic control, fall protection, lockout/tagout, and heavy equipment operations.
- Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), pre-task plans, and permits to ensure hazards have been identified and controlled.
- Verify employees are utilizing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and following established safe work practices.
- Assist Safety with developing and implementing site-specific safety plans.
- Maintain housekeeping, work zone organization, and overall site conditions to reduce hazards and improve efficiency.
Safety Training & Communication
- Conduct new employee safety orientation and onboarding.
- Deliver toolbox talks, weekly safety meetings, and task-specific safety training.
- Mentor and coach field employees, supervisors, foremen, and developing safety professionals on hazard recognition and safe work practices.
- Identify training deficiencies and coordinate required certifications and refresher training.
- Promote employee engagement by encouraging hazard reporting, near-miss reporting, and proactive participation in safety initiatives.
- Coach supervisors and employees to improve hazard recognition, accountability, and safe work performance.
Incident Response & Documentation
- Assist investigations involving workplace injuries, vehicle accidents, property damage, environmental incidents, and near misses.
- Gather witness statements, photographs, evidence, and documentation to determine root causes.
- Complete timely and accurate incident investigation reports.
- Develop corrective and preventive action plans to reduce recurrence.
- Maintain confidential incident files and required regulatory documentation.
- Absorb workers' compensation reporting, return-to-work coordination, and insurance investigations as needed.
Compliance & Program Support
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, MSHA (where applicable), ADEM, and company safety requirements.
- Conduct internal safety audits and assist during customer and regulatory inspections.
- Maintain inspection reports, safety observations, training records, certifications, SDS files, and regulatory documentation.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with company and project safety requirements.
- Absorb the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of company safety programs and procedures.
- Analyze inspection and incident trends to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Support environmental compliance initiatives and company sustainability efforts as applicable.
Professional Conduct & Team Support
- Represent the company professionally during customer meetings, safety audits, and regulatory inspections.
- Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment in all interactions.
- Stay current on OSHA regulations, industry best practices, and emerging safety trends through continuing education and professional development.
