About the role
The Safety Advisor will assist the division with planning and implementation of safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT).
Responsibilities
- Training and Development: Assist in identifying training needs and gaps, and propose training/education plans to fill gaps. Offer specific training programs to help workers maintain or improve job skills. Provide training to field personnel through tailboards and briefings. Evaluate Safety, Health, and Environmental (HSE) education and training programs. Assist in developing training procedure manuals, guides, or course materials, such as handouts or visual materials. Support Company HSE training to ensure it complies with state and federal regulations.
- Safety Inspections and Compliance: Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations. Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions. Audit job sites to ensure all employees are following proper HSE procedures. Prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective measures. Complete near miss/good catch reports. Ensure timely and accurate incident reporting. Follow up on corrective actions to ensure completion and effectiveness.
- Communication and Relationship Management: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and maintain working relationships with employees, supervisory personnel, state and local officials, consultants, and sub-contractors. Provide support on sensitive/critical projects. Support and Development of HSE Programs: Support Corporate HSE Initiatives. Assist in the development and enhancement of HSE programs. Support post-incident investigations. Perform analysis and trending of HSE statistics and metrics to proactively monitor safety performance.
- Regulatory Understanding: Have a general understanding of environmental rules and regulations.
Requirements
- High school graduate and/or GED equivalent
- 2 years minimum related experience (ideally within drilling/foundation, substation, and civil construction)
- Strong preference for experience in: Drilling & foundations, Substations, Heavy civil construction
- Osha 30 certification and/or related safety certification, preferred
- Understanding of Federal and State safety regulations and training requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and experience with web-based tracking software
Qualifications
- Must complete pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check as a condition of employment.
