Job Description
Schnabel Engineering is seeking a highly skilled Field or Construction Engineer to join our distinguished team for a project located in Alexandria, VA.
The ideal candidate will play an essential role in our team, ensuring every project we undertake observes the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.
Plant Upgrade Description
- Solids Upgrade Program: Replacements to the thickening and dewatering equipment, gravity thickeners, and digestor heat exchangers and mixers. Decommissioning of a pasteurization system and installation of a new solids dryer facility. Potential pilot testing of pyrolysis technologies.
- Preliminary and Primary Systems Upgrade Project: Improvements in Building A include coarse screen upgrades, a third coarse screen, raw sewage pump upgrades, and raw sewage conduit rehabilitation. Building B improvements include fine screen upgrades, new screenings and grit conveyance, new truck loading technology, new grit washers, scum concentrator upgrades, and a mix of new vortex grit separators and stacked tray grit separators. Improvements around the Primary Settling Tanks (PSTs) include primary sludge pump upgrades, refurbishment of the Primary Observation House, relocation of the existing walkway, repair of the PST effluent channel and control structures, and replacement of the PST influent baffles, slide gates, scum skimmers, and handrails.
- Centrate Pretreatment Project: Upgrade the CPT system to a modernized continuous flow DEMON system. Includes new flow-through baffles, parabolic screens, submersible pumps, wedge wire screens, instrumentation, and associated piping and cleaning.
Job Responsibilities
- Working under the direction of a Resident Engineer and supporting our inspectors, the Construction Engineer is the center hub between the RE and our inspectors and is responsible for ensuring that our inspection staff are fully versed in the upcoming work including the status of submittals, RFI’s, NCNs, etc.
- The Construction Engineer shall be fully versed in CMIS platforms (preferably using Procore).
- The Construction Engineer is responsible for Document Control including prioritizing and expediting workflows that are driving the projects critical path.
- Reviewing workflows for clarity and compliance with the Contract Documents and our CMP.
- Working with all parties to mitigate plant and project risks and facilitate integrated planning.
- Demonstrated ability to support field inspectors planning and daily preparation to facilitate their daily oversight of the Contractor.
- Prepare meeting minutes and draft responses as requested by the Resident Engineer.
- Cookordination 3rd Party inspections.
Required Skills/Experience
- 5+ years of experience in a similar position as a Construction Engineer or a Field Engineer
- BS in Engineering - preferably with a P.E. or CCM
- 5+ years of experience using a CMIS platform (e-Builder, Procore, etc.)
- Experience as a workflow coordinator
- Experience as a mentor to inspection staff
- OSHA 10 (30 preferred)

Pay
The compensation range for this position is between $104,000 to $172,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
