Overview
The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is the nonprofit, applied research division of the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). Founded in 1934, GTRI supports over 2,900 employees across 20 locations, conducting over $940 million of research annually for government and industry.
Job Purpose
Business Development (BD) Managers provide direct support for GTRI-wide customer engagement, contract vehicle capture activities, and contract/program management. They also serve as the main point of contact for stakeholder engagement strategy with sponsors in the Dayton area.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads or supports BD activities for GTRI and across all Directorates, Laboratories and Field Offices, not just those in direct reporting chain.
- Provides direct support for GTRI-wide customer engagement, contract vehicle capture activities, and contract/program management.
- Provides direction and overall management for BD staff.
- Serves as the initial and primary interface between research sponsors and GTRI research laboratories.
- Develops, establishes, and maintains relationships between GTRI, strategic partners and customers, especially the Department of Defense.
- Identifies, develops, and implements near-term and long-term business strategies relating to GTRI science and technology (S&T) and research, development, sing and evaluation (RDT&E) activities.
- Actively identifies potential sponsors and opportunities, coordinates staffing requirements with laboratory leadership, and provides and manages contract vehicles to support GTRI research staff and technical activities.
- Secures research funding in support of all GTRI Directorates, Laboratories and Field Offices.
- Maintains 10-year vision/roadmap for the establishment and continuity of contract vehicles with the characteristics of agility, flexibility and useability across GTRI.
- Supports the Dayton Field Office in operational activities, including coordination of facility-related issues, access requirements, and contracted support services.
- Facilitates research collaborations between the Dayton Field Office, GTRI laboratories, and other field offices to advance sponsored research opportunities.
- Supports the development and execution of proposals for new research efforts aligned to field office strategy and sponsor needs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participates in routine GTRI and/or Lab specific meetings to inform leadership on current and future opportunities and business intelligence related to the Dayton area.
- Contributes as a subject matter expert to sponsored research, specifically for WPAFB sponsors.
- Supports GTRI Project Directors in successful execution of sponsored programs with through on-premise support, coordination, and guidance.
- Coordinates, synchronizes, and deconflicts efforts with the labs working in the GTRI Dayton Field Office and across GTRI.
