About the role

A SIGN-ON BONUS OF $4,955 IS AVAILABLE FOR THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT OF THIS POSITION PAID IN 2 INSTALLMENTS WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE: $2,477.50 WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE DATE & $2,477.50 12 MONTHS AFTER HIRE DATE.

Functions as a locksmith/hardware technician with responsibility for developing and maintaining, repairing, installing and replacing mechanical, electrical, electronic, and other devices and equipment associated with door hardware, including ADA handicap equipment; reviewing building plans, drawings, and assisting other locksmiths in repairs, installations, and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain, repair, install and replace mechanical, electrical, electronic, and other devices and equipment associated with door hardware, including ADA handicap equipment.
  • Review building plans, drawings, and assist other locksmiths in repairs, installations, and maintenance.
  • Maintain and operate various types of lock and security systems.
  • Assist in the installation and removal of locks and security devices.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance of building security systems.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide immediate assistance as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
  • Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must possess a valid NC Driver’s License or have the ability to obtain one prior to hire. A valid NC Locksmith License is required, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.

Qualifications

  • Progressive experience as a commercial or institutional locksmith.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electronic devices with or without documentation.
  • Experience repairing and maintaining electronic door openers.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing door hardware.

Skills

  • Ability to climb/maneuver ladders and work from scaffolds.
  • Bend, squat and stoop to accomplish work.
  • Move objects weighing up to 40 pounds to an overhead position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Work for extended periods of time.
  • Sit and stand and sit.
  • Significant physical effort depending on the nature of the emergency.
  • High degree of hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
  • Ability to serve as a mandatory employee and report to work in support of essential (mandatory) University operations, even when adverse weather or other emergency conditions may require the University to close.
