Field Engineer III

About the role

The Project Field Services Specialist provides on-site support to provide technical assistance with testing, assembly, installation, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and troubleshooting of Oceaneering Technologies (OTECH) equipment on behalf of Oceaneering International. The position is located in Hanover, MD and requires domestic and overseas travel up to 20% of the year.

Responsibilities

• Perform fundamental field services tasks with minimal supervision of a senior engineer; involved in installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of electro‑mechanical equipment and systems.
• Interface with all phases of assembly and manufacturing; provide early‑stage input for appropriate system design under supervision.
• Assist in developing manufacturing and installation cost‑benefit analysis input.
• Conduct research and reference reading to obtain technical information and stay current with approved standards, codes, and procedures across engineering disciplines.
• Assist with generating sections of design specifications for complex projects or complete specifications for less complex projects.
• Augment engineering process at design reviews with manufacturing/field experience.
• Assist in red‑lining drawing packages to reflect “as‑Built” status of equipment.
• Plan and carry out successive engineering steps and resolve technical problems using standard practices (tolerance studies, design calculations).
• Provide resolution to manufacturing problems.
• Troubleshoot and repair electro‑mechanical and fiber‑optic systems.
• Conduct laboratory investigations and root‑cause analyses on equipment or systems.
• Support projects with limited scope or parts of more complex projects with detailed instructions on document intent and scope.
• Support projects with limited logistics support.
• Assist in creation/update of maintenance manuals, documents, and drawings.
• Prepare, deliver, and submit technical presentations for in‑process design and review meetings.
• Prepare progress reports, job completion estimates, and cost estimates.
• Some travel required, including sporadic offshore work, extended workdays and work weeks, with limited communications for continuous 1‑2 month periods.
• Perform other position‑related duties as assigned or requested.
• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of applicable Subsea & Seabed Warfare (SSW) engineering concepts, principles, and familiarity with related engineering fields.
• Minimum 5‑9 years of experience in field operations including fabrication, assembly, installation and testing of SSW electro‑mechanical systems (hydraulics, propulsion, manipulator, fiber optic, navigation, subsea environmental sensing).
• Professional knowledge of applicable engineering concepts and principles and familiarity with related engineering fields.
• Practical knowledge of test methods and practices sufficient to perform routine to complex engineering procedures and to prepare or make minor modifications of standard test procedures or test equipment work instructions.
• Experience with preparation of progress reports, job completion estimates, and cost estimating.
• Well versed with ANSI Y14.5, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, AWS D1.1,2.
• Able to read and understand engineering electrical and mechanical schematics/drawings.
• Current Top Secret security clearance (desired SCI clearance and Counterintelligence polygraph).
