About the role

The Field Service Technician III provides field support to clients, including commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, or retrofit of mechanical and electrical systems. This role involves close collaboration with the Quality Department, Project Engineers, Project Managers, Process Engineers, client personnel, and other Field Engineers and Service Technicians. Responsibilities include monitoring Quality Assurance requirements, compiling O&M information, transmitting critical O&M details during projects, and assisting in the compilation of final IOM manuals. The position reports to the Director of Aftermarket Product Services but requires interface with multiple departments and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Startup, preventative maintenance, and service of vertical turbine pumps and split coupled inline pumps.
  • Startup, preventative maintenance, and service of Cooling Towers (Evapco, Kelvion, Marley, SPX).
  • Startup, preventative maintenance, and service of Centrifugal Chillers (Trane, York, McQuay, Smardt).
  • Startup and troubleshooting of variable frequency drives (Eaton and Allen-Bradley).
  • Install and repair power distribution systems, including electric motors, motor control centers, and variable speed drives.
  • Interface with Field Service Technicians, Project Engineers, Project Managers, mechanical and electrical engineers, service technicians, and client personnel.
  • Assist the Production Department in assembly or training of factory personnel.
  • Compile O&M information and transmit critical O&M details during project phases.
  • Assist in compilation of final sets of IOM manuals.
  • Provide feedback from the field as an integral part of the position.
  • Create legible “red-line” drawings for submission to the Project Manager.
  • Arrange for timely hand-off from construction function.
  • Direct the field commissioning of a project.
  • Troubleshoot all mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Provide documented commissioning of mechanical and electrical portions of projects.
  • Assist in Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions, possibly performing or overseeing QC checks.
  • Other responsibilities as designated by TAS.

Requirements

  • Significant project field experience in construction support, startup, repair, and maintenance work.
  • Experience with variable frequency drive startup and troubleshooting (Eaton and Allen-Bradley).
  • Experience with verification of compliance with ASHRAE, ASME, and other relevant codes and practices.
  • Experience with Centrifugal Chillers, Cooling Towers, and VFDs.
  • Ability to travel extensively to both domestic and international job sites (80% travel).
  • Ability to work in field construction conditions.
  • Must have or can obtain applicable safety certifications, including OSHA 10 General Construction and NFPA-70E.
  • Safe driving record.

Qualifications

  • HVAC Trade school and/or apprenticeship training preferred; military training and/or technical work experience may be considered in lieu of certification.

Skills

  • Ability to read drawings and schematics.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Office projects.
  • Exposure to at least one brand of PLC or Building controls.
  • Must be able to work independently at the job site.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

  • Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
  • Performs physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.
  • Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception, and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading.
  • Subject to inside environmental conditions.

TAS has implemented a non-smoking hiring policy, requiring individuals considered for employment to pass a drug test, including a nicotine panel.
