About the role
The Project Engineer is a key member of the project operations team that provides critical support to Project Management and acts as the liaison between the Field and the Office.
Responsibilities
- Development of pre-work and post-work submittal packages, processing, validating and compiling cable test reports
- Drafting and processing RFIs, preparing change order requests
- Verifying field conditions against design documents, ensuring working sets of drawings and specifications are kept up-to-date
- Maintaining redline / as-built drawing sets and keeping project records appropriately filed
- Ensuring the entire extended Project Team is always up to date

- Participate in the RFP processes, completing a detailed review of plans, specifications, and entirety of bid package.
- Provide close support to the Project Manager and/or Senior Project Manager.
- Evaluate and continually suggest improvements to processes used by Project Delivery Teams to effectively meet customer requirements and expectations.
- Manage, mentor, and develop colleagues.
- Interact with the customer to validate our understanding of expectations before, during, and after project completion.
- Aid in providing close support and oversight for our subcontractors.
- Lead field validation of telecom design, proactively identifying conflicts or gaps and collaborating with CM, PM, and customer for resolution through the RFI process.
- Manage project review process with particular emphasis on constructability, value engineering options and design discrepancies/clashes.
- Own the implementation and oversight of electronic tracking systems and custom dashboards to drive real-time visibility into task progress, crew productivity, and issue resolution.
- Daily/weekly reporting, issue escalation, and coordination with project managers and general contractors.
- Proactively and systematically communicate challenges, risks, and successes.
- Coordination with Project Superintendent(s) to understand and assess installation methods, labor needs, and Client forecasts.
- Support QA/QC by ensuring adherence to the Quality Control plans and process.
- Ensure that all downstream team members are meeting deadlines on assigned tasks.
- Reviews contracts, work orders and purchase orders to fully understand contractual requirements and provisions, and to ensure scope of work is in alignment with associated estimate and respective contract documents.
- Cultivate and maintain customer relationships.
- Work with the field operations team to ensure proper materials and equipment are available.
- Coordinates with customer for acceptance and signoff.
- Demonstrates ownership of the change management process—actively identifies scope impacts, initiates timely communication with stakeholders, and drives resolution to maintain schedule and project alignment.
- Partners closely with QA/QC teams.
- Regularly reviews and validates test results (OTDR, Power Meter, etc.).
- Maintains up to date redlines throughout the build lifecycle.
- Leads the preparation of closeout documentation, ensuring timely, organized, and customer-ready submittals.
Qualifications
- Must be proficient and well-practiced in leveraging information and data in making informed decisions.
- Extensive knowledge of Safety protocols, processes and procedures.
- Deep understanding of industry specific estimating and engineering best practices.
- Ability to identify change events.
- Knowledge of various construction technology platforms, quality, and safety standards.
- Ability to understand and develop project schedules.
- Demonstrated professionalism and ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, and others.
- Ability to work under time constraints and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.
- Strong oral and written communication and organizational skills, including excellent customer service skills.
- Demonstrated skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to mentor junior field staff, lead site walks, and represent the telecom discipline in cross-functional meetings.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and influence without direct authority.
- Proficient in using a computer and business / industry applications - Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.), Bluebeam, Procore, Textura and others.
Skills
- Bachelor's Degree Construction Management, Engineering or other related discipline.
- Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Minimum of 5+ years' experience in the construction industry in a similar role.
- Experience with large structured cabling projects and/or data center construction projects highly preferred.
- Preferred professional certifications: OSHA-30 Hour certification (if not certified at time of hire, certifications must be obtained within first six (6) months of employment), BICSI TECH.
