Field Applications Specialist, Tube Laser
About the role
Serves as a resource on technical expertise to his/her application within the department. Conducts field troubleshooting of customer applications/machine issues, field training of advanced applications, internal/external applications tests, and limited in-house sales applications support for tube laser and peripheral products. Provides advanced technical support/feedback from the field to sales team members, Laser Applications Manager, and Product Manager.
Responsibilities
- Establish oneself as a subject matter expert in their related field.
- Perform and receive training at BLM GROUP USA as needed.
- Conduct advanced training for customers in the field.
- Troubleshoot and correct customer’s applications issues in the field.
- Determine in the field if customer concerns are machine related or applications based, correct machine/service-related issues in addition to application.
- Train customers on how to correct any issues encountered during in-field visits.
- Conduct tube laser machine/software demos at customer sites.
- Travel to customer to conduct run-off acceptance tests.
- Development of tube product machine/software in field demonstration parts/strategy.
- Performs thorough onsite pre-sale application analysis with RSM; recommends a best fit laser solution for the customer.
- Presentation of Machine/Software at tradeshows as needed.
- Occasionally perform time studies/feasibility requests.
- Provides technical expertise to other Applications Engineers and Product Managers working within the department.
- Provides technical expertise to other departments within the company to aid with project specifications and completion, specifically as it pertains to in-field applications.
- Understands technical issues to the point of being able to aid others within the Applications department with recommendations and/or referring the matter to a subject expert.
- Supports the Laser Applications Manager/Product Manager by providing advanced technical counsel and solutions to the customer’s specific technical issue.
- Maintains a positive rapport, professional appearance, and business relationship with customers by providing outstanding customer service.
- Travel to Italy 1-2 times per year to have continual training in software and hardware of BLM GROUP products.
- Able to travel up to 80%, as needed by management.
- Commitment to this position for a timeframe of 3 – 5 years.
- Overtime as necessary to complete workload as defined by manager.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in a technical field.
- Prior experience or equivalent military training may be substituted for a degree.
- At least three years of laser or CNC experience across multiple applications including setup, service, maintenance experience, or CNC part programming.
- Licensing/Certifications: A clear driving record containing no more than two (2) minor moving violations in three (3) years and no major violations in the last seven (7) years.
- Knowledge, Skills, And Other Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of CAD/CAM software and how they apply to specific machine and part applications.
- Understanding of reading part drawings.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of statistical evaluations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Able to effectively use the Internet.
- Highly organized.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to help advise others within the department with respect to technical matters.
- Must be able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Must have excellent time management skills.
- Professional appearance.
- Able to effectively work with all levels of team members and all types of customer personalities.
- Understanding of laser technology/parameters and ability to adjust them.
- Must have mechanical aptitude/experience.
- Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Vehicles Used: General office equipment, including computers, printers, fax machines and telephones. Large format CNC machines Generalized tools for troubleshooting large format machinery Bridge Crane Forklift.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to manipulate (type), stand; talk and hear; walk; sit, and lift or move no more than eighty (80) pounds. The incumbent works primarily in a manufacturing facility where the noise level may be moderate to loud. May occasionally work in an office environment. The position requires approximately 80% travel. Travel may be domestic or international. This position is not a remote position.
Reporting Relationships
This position reports directly to the Solution Center Applications Manager, and indirectly to the lead Applications Engineer.
