FERC Regulatory Analyst I, II, III, or Senior

About the role

This position is responsible for administering FERC regulatory processes important to Tri-State. The role involves working with SMEs to prepare testimony, coordinate audits, and respond to data requests. Collaboration with internal and external counsel, consultants, and business unit staff is also part of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to internal processes in response to changes in federal regulatory requirements.
  • Independently perform general oversight of regulatory activities, including review of monthly, quarterly, and yearly FERC filings, and reporting.
  • Stay informed of FERC regulations that may impact Tri-State’s policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Stay informed of state regulations that may impact Tri-State’s policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Conduct analysis and regulatory support to meet FERC requirements.
  • Develop effective written communications on various FERC topics including presentations, procedures, policies, and reference materials.
  • Interact with leadership throughout the organization to understand and address FERC regulatory issues.
  • Ability to support data request responses for FERC matters.
  • Partner with stakeholders to gather and review data for FERC certificate filings, and reports.
  • Prepare compliance filings, tariff amendments, contracts, service agreements, testimony, briefs, arguments, pleadings, and other legal documents.
  • Provide support for transmission regulatory filings at FERC, through analysis and testimony.
  • Identify regulatory or external customer/stakeholder issues, particularly with respect to FERC, and proactively develop positions in order to meet the company’s objectives.
  • Provide regulatory assistance and services to the various functional areas of Tri-State, in matters pertaining to general business and utility activities.
  • Conduct Internal FERC compliance Audits.
  • Represent Tri-State in FERC and other regulatory proceedings and at various meetings of utility organizations, committees, and joint projects.
  • Adhere to company policies, programs, and procedures as well as Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO) standards and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Business, Finance, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Legal or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including ability to effectively convey complex technical or legal concepts in understandable terms both in writing and verbally.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a team and develop, facilitate, and implement broad based initiatives.
  • Knowledge and ability in preparing tariff amendments, contracts, service agreements, testimony, briefs, arguments, pleadings, and other legal documents.
  • Knowledge of applicable FERC Regulatory Requirements affecting the electric utility industry.
  • Knowledge of electric utility operations.
  • Knowledge of FERC processes and requirements.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subject matter experts, team members, and managers.
  • Willingness to travel as required (must possess a valid driver’s license).

Skills

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications and PC skills.

Hiring Salary Range: $72,000 - $139,000
