Job Summary
The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for owning key areas of the general ledger and monthly close process to ensure timely, accurate, and audit-ready financial reporting. This role partners closely with the Accounting Manager while operating with a high degree of independence across assigned financial areas.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Own assigned areas of the monthly close process, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and adherence to deadlines
- Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation and limited review
- Maintain the general ledger for assigned accounts and ensure proper accounting treatment
- Own and prepare balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all accounts are accurate and fully supported
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies proactively, maintaining audit-ready documentation
- Support cash, accruals, and other key financial areas through consistent reconciliation and analysis
- Aid in preparation of monthly financial statements and reporting packages
- Perform variance analysis and provide clear explanations for changes in financial performance
- Support internal management reporting and data accuracy
- Intercompany & Operational Accounting Support intercompany accounting, allocations, and reconciliations across entities
- Partner with operations and accounting leadership to ensure accuracy of financial data
- Provide oversight and support to AP/AR processes as needed (not primary responsibility)
- Audit & Compliance Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for external audits and compliance requirements
- Assist with sales tax and other regulatory reporting as needed
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting policies
- Process Improvement Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, and strengthen controls
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in systems, workflows, and reporting accuracy
Required Skills/Abilities
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and general accounting principles
- Advanced Excel skills (data analysis, reconciliations, financial schedules)
- Experience working within an ERP or accounting system (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar)
- High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and accountability
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Effective communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred
- 4–6+ years of accounting experience required
- Experience with month-end close, general ledger ownership, and reconciliations required
- Experience in multi-entity environments or public accounting preferred
Pay Range
$28 - $40 per hour
