Farm Lead position reporting to the Senior Farm Lead, assisting in the planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating of farm operations across all Bonton Farms locations.
Responsibilities
- Work with Senior Farm Lead on overall farm operations, including training, mentoring, and managing apprentices in the workforce development program.
- Operate as a servant leader, coordinating schedules, training, and developing team members on tasks and character traits.
- Model expected behaviors and outcomes by being hands-on with the farm team.
- Manage volunteers by providing direction, monitoring progress, and sharing the mission of Bonton Farms and the Bonton community.
- Participate in planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops to ensure high-quality, abundant vegetation.
- Provide leadership for healthier and higher-producing livestock practices.
- Implement regenerative agriculture best practices throughout farm operations.
- Maintain inventory controls for vegetation, livestock, equipment, tools, and other farm items.
- Delegate and review daily tasks to ensure completion.
- Document farm standards of operating practices (SOPs).
- Review business needs with the Senior Farm Lead for purchasing farm machinery, livestock, seed, feed, and other supplies.
- Collaborate with other departments on vegetation and livestock production, harvest planning, and apprentice development opportunities.
- Assess farm challenges and recommend sustainable solutions for crop and livestock operations.
- Help implement processes and systems to increase production and efficiency.
- Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and customers.
- Embody and showcase the organization’s values (Courage, Love, Unity, and Excellence) to the community, visitors, donors, and stakeholders.
Requirements
- 2+ years of farming experience, including specialized crop work and/or livestock management.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agriculture business, animal science, plant science, or related field (alternative fields considered with relevant internship or experience).
- Demonstrated leadership experience (6+ months) through employment or extracurricular activities.
- Experience working with vendors, suppliers, or clients in the farming industry.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Passion and patience for developing people and helping them achieve their purpose.
- Willingness to undergo peer specialist training if not already certified.
