Farm Food Safety Compliance Specialist

About the role

Grimmway Produce Group is seeking a Farm Food Safety Compliance Specialist to support and strengthen the company’s farm food safety programs by ensuring compliance with the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) audit schemes, the FSMA Produce Safety Rule, and customer requirements. This position functions as a professional compliance specialist under the guidance of the Farming Food Safety Manager and is responsible for ensuring compliance through technical expertise, training, and audit readiness. The role requires independent judgment, strong regulatory knowledge, and the ability to work across multiple farming operations.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with GFSI audit schemes, FSMA Produce Safety Rule, and customer requirements.
• Provide technical expertise, training, and audit readiness support.
• Conduct risk assessments and resolve non-conformances.
• Train, mentor, and collaborate across diverse teams.
• Manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision while working under manager direction.
• Work in the Coachella area for approximately five months during the winter harvest season (housing or housing allowance provided).
• Travel extensively, including some evenings and weekends.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience in food safety compliance, auditing, or quality assurance within agriculture or fresh produce.
• Demonstrated experience in creating, updating, and implementing food safety programs.
• Knowledge of GAPs, GFSI audit schemes, FSMA Produce Safety Rule, and LGMA.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to conduct risk assessments.
• Excellent communication skills.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with compliance or data management systems a plus.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Must be able to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays if needed.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively (including some evenings and weekend travel).
• Must work in the Coachella area for approximately five months during the winter harvest season (no PTO allowed during this period).
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).
• Valid driver’s license with a clean DMV driving record.
• Must pass pre-placement drug/alcohol screen.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Food Science, Biology, Agronomy, or a related field preferred.

Pay

Total Rewards: $70,304 - $75,000 per year. Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
