About the role

Mount Prospect Academy (MPA) is a nonprofit agency founded in 2003 that provides mental health support services to adolescents who are “hard to treat” or “difficult to place.” The Family Therapist (FT) role involves providing culturally sensitive, therapeutic services to students and their caregivers using evidenced-based practices in unconventional settings such as homes or residential milieus. The position focuses on building lifelong connections, supporting youth and families in overcoming challenges, and developing strengths and supports to ensure success.

The FT collaborates with clinical teams, permanency coordinators, and treatment teams to implement treatment plans, facilitate family therapy, and support trauma-informed approaches using frameworks such as Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and the Attachment, Regulation and Competency (ARC) Framework. Documentation responsibilities include SOAP notes, group counseling notes, and reports such as court reports, monthly progress reports, and assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Write and present comprehensive assessments/case conceptualizations to faculty, referrals, families, and administration.
  • Facilitate individual and family treatment based on treatment plan prescription, predominantly within the home but the residential milieu when required.
  • Develop a plan for professional licensure following the guidelines of the NH Board of Mental Health Practice.
  • Ensure residential staff adhere to the appropriate programming and treatment plans for individuals as indicated.
  • Monitor all aspects of day-to-day operations and evaluate client service delivery.
  • Work with residents and families on the development of short- and long-term treatment plans.
  • Act as an agency liaison with contracting agencies, advocates, and guardians.
  • Maintain records for contract and state compliance.
  • Develop and maintain community, governmental, and other public and private resources and relationships; actively participate in professional organizations.
  • Facilitate trainings for all faculty related to evidenced-based family therapy practice as part of the yearly training calendar.
  • Support crisis intervention within the milieu and the home.
  • Remain accountable to the AAMFT Code of Ethics.
  • Continue to research current evidenced-based practices to support personal, professional, and program development.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the Clinical Director/Director of Clinical Services.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of experience counseling adolescents and/or families, preferably in home-based or residential settings (includes practicum and internship-based experience).
  • Experience with evidenced-based family therapy modalities preferred but not required.
  • Must complete a background check.
