Family Support Specialist (Floyd, Mitchell, and Chickasaw Counties)
About the role
Family Support Specialists (FSS) offer home visits to expectant parents and caregivers of small children, providing parenting education, support, and advocacy. Family Support Specialists link parents to resources, promote optimal child health and development, and problem solve with parents. Family needs and abilities are evaluated on an ongoing basis. Family Support Specialists assist families in designing individualized support plans and empower families over time to achieve their chosen goals. This position will primarily meet with clients in the home and maintain contact via telephone.
Our home visitation program is part of a nationwide initiative designed to empower families to become and remain healthy and strong.
Responsibilities
- Conduct in-home weekly visits with expectant parents and caregivers of young children
- Provide parenting education, support, and advocacy
- Link parents to local resources and community support
- Promote optimal child health and development
- Problem-solve with parents to address family needs
- Evaluate family needs and abilities on an ongoing basis
- Assist families in designing individualized support plans
- Empower families to achieve their chosen goals
- Maintain contact with clients via telephone
Requirements
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in health or human service-related field or education
- Required: Associate's degree in health and human service-related field or education and 2 years of experience
- Valid driver's license and auto insurance
- Good driving record
- Ability to pass an extensive background check, including checks of the Dependent Adult and Child Abuse registries, Sex Offender registry, and criminal history check
