About the role

We are actively recruiting a 0.6 FTE General Practitioner in Oncology (GPO) to join Dr. Katie Forman in the GP Oncology Program at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH). The selected physician will deliver a range of cancer services to patients with all possible tumor sites, managing oncology patients primarily in the outpatient setting while also supporting inpatient, indirect, and remote care throughout the entire treatment pathway from primary treatment through survivorship.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise treatment using chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy
  • Provide patient education, supportive care, and end-of-life/palliative care planning
  • Maintain active communication with multidisciplinary cancer program oncologist teams
  • Manage acute toxicities, dose adjustments, and treatment plan modifications
  • Support infusions and visit summaries
  • Provide ongoing surveillance and monitoring of patients post-treatment for cancer recurrence or treatment-related complications
  • Communicate regularly with specialists regarding the plan of care and collaborate as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Act as a resource to oncology patients’ primary care providers and other healthcare providers on cancer-related issues (e.g., guidance during work-up of suspected cancer patients, referral process questions, management of cancer patients)

Qualifications

  • No previous experience in oncology is required; the department will support the successful applicant in developing the requisite expertise
  • Completion of the mandatory GP oncology training, an 8-week course including 4 weeks of online didactic learning and 6 weeks of practical training with the BC Cancer Agency
  • The next training session is TBD via Virtual Delivery; the 4-week introductory didactic learning module is encouraged to determine interest in the full program
  • REAP funding is available for this training

Benefits and Incentives

  • May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including:
    • Retention Premium: 11.48%
    • Retention Flat Fee: $17,791
  • Relocation Funding:
    • $9,000 if moving within BC
    • $12,000 within Canada
    • $15,000 from outside Canada
  • Recruitment Incentive: $15,000, prorated for physicians working less than full time
  • Other Benefits/Incentives:
    • With RCME, eligible to receive $440 for up to 2 years in Trail, $2,640 during the 3rd and 4th year, and $4,840 after 4 years, in addition to the Doctors of BC CME funds
