About the role

The Department of Physiology and the Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for several Assistant Professor positions in the tenure track. The position comes with a competitive start-up package and lab space, protected time for the establishment of an independent research program, and mentoring by supportive faculty in the Physiology Department and CVI.

Teaching responsibilities may include graduate and medical student instruction and training graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Research or scholarship responsibilities include developing a successful, extramurally supported research program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead an independent, extramurally supported research program.
  • Teach and mentor graduate students, medical students, and postdoctoral fellows.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree.
  • Significant postdoctoral training or similar experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in research grounded in fundamental mechanistic investigation that leverages molecular, biophysical, cellular, and/or organismal insights to inform physiological or pathological processes in the cardiovascular system.

Qualifications

We seek investigators with research interests in areas including, but not limited to:

  • Mitochondrial biology
  • Cardiovascular metabolism
  • Mechanotransduction
  • Calcium signaling
  • Vascular biology
  • Cardiovascular-related interorgan communication
  • Gene regulation

Research excellence will be weighed more strongly than specific research interests. The ideal candidate will have a vision for leveraging the rich, collaborative environment at the University of Pennsylvania to tackle fundamental questions in cardiovascular biology.
