Physiology Faculty - College of Medicine

Job Summary

The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Physiology. We are seeking a dedicated, innovative individual who aspires to collaborate with our faculty to educate the next generation of osteopathic physicians.

Characteristic Job Tasks and Responsibilities

• Teach Physiology to preclinical medical students and post-baccalaureate students;
• Create lectures, lecture notes, learning objectives, Power Point slides, exam questions, and syllabi;
• Participate in curriculum development and evaluation;
• Serve on committees, as assigned;
• Act as a content expert in their area of expertise;
• Facilitate Problem-Based Learning (PBL) sessions;
• Interview prospective candidates for the College of Medicine (COM);
• Advise and mentor assigned students, providing counseling and guidance;
• Serve as advisor to at least one student club;
• Prepare demonstrations, small group discussions, and select suggested and required readings from various sources, coordinating these educational tools with other faculty members;
• Develop evaluation tools to aid in assessing students' progress and identifying areas where students may need additional support;
• Attend “Team” meetings approved by COM that advance the profession;
• Contribute to the overall success of students, including advising and monitoring their academic progress;
• Contribute to the mission of LECOM by participating in institutional fundraising and the LECOM Scholarship Auction;
• Engage in scholarly activities to enrich and broaden the student learning experience;
• Represent LECOM by being actively involved in the community, including serving on boards, participating in community fundraisers, and outreach efforts;
• Be available for work during assigned hours, for student instruction;
• Accept other duties assigned/needed for the institution's needs.

Minimum Requirements

• Knowledge of student and patient privacy (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA);
• Follow proper OSHA and safety guidelines, protect equipment (office, medical, facility);
• Strong communications skills and computer literacy (MS Office Suite [Word, PowerPoint, Excel]);
• Accuracy and attention to detail;
• Training and certification on the Institutional Data System;
• Maintain an established work schedule;
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including tact and diplomacy;
• Organizational and planning skills, including attention to detail and follow-through;
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands;
• Maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials;
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships;
• Flexibility to accept other duties needed/assigned for the COM;
• The ability to work cooperatively and collegially with others, consistent with a workplace of dignity and respect and EEO rules and regulations;
• The ability to report to work as scheduled, ready to devote full attention and energy to the important work of LECOM;
• The ability to accept work directives from managers and supervisors in a respectful and cooperative manner.
