About the role
The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic Arizona is seeking an exceptional research scientist to establish a cutting-edge program addressing fundamental challenges in cardiovascular disease through innovative approaches in regenerative medicine, cardio-oncology, or related translational research areas.
Responsibilities
- Directly supports Mayo Clinic's transformational vision to shift healthcare from reactive treatment to predictive prevention, aligning with initiatives such as Genesis Initiative, Precure Initiative, and Bold. Forward. Transformation.
- Establishes a complementary and symbiotic research program in cardiac regeneration, cardio-oncology, or related translational cardiovascular science areas that align with the department's strategic vision and existing research infrastructure.
- Works within the framework of Mayo Clinic's robust research infrastructure, including shared core facilities, an integrated electronic health record, and direct access to Mayo Clinic's enterprise-wide biorepositories and translational science platforms.
Requirements
- MD, MD/PhD, or PhD in cardiovascular science, cell biology, developmental biology, bioengineering, oncology, or related field.
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals with first or senior author publications in high-impact journals.
- Record of competitive extramural funding (NIH R01 or equivalent federal/foundation support) or clear trajectory toward independent funding.
- Experience with advanced research methodologies relevant to cardiovascular disease.
Qualifications
- Essential qualifications include an MD, MD/PhD, or PhD in cardiovascular science, cell biology, developmental biology, bioengineering, oncology, or related field.
- Essential qualifications also include a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals with first or senior author publications in high-impact journals.
- Essential qualifications require a record of competitive extramural funding (NIH R01 or equivalent federal/foundation support) or a clear trajectory toward independent funding.
- Essential qualifications involve experience with advanced research methodologies relevant to cardiovascular disease.
Skills
- Demonstrated technical excellence and a proven track record in cardiovascular research.
- Experience with in-vivo models (small or large animal).
- Proficiency in advanced molecular techniques (single-cell sequencing, CRISPR, optogenetics, etc.).
- Collaborative research experience with clinical and/or translational programs.
- Track record in translational research with potential for clinical application.
- Experience with drug delivery systems or therapeutic development.
