Facility Maintenance Technician - Detention

About the role

The position involves the maintenance of Chaves County grounds and buildings, including tasks such as preserving grounds, plumbing, painting, carpentry, custodial duties, and other related responsibilities as directed by the supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Read and write proficiently
• Use all equipment, hand, and power tools in a proficient manner
• Establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing in English
• Work independently using good judgment and decision-making skills
• Follow County safety policies and practices
• Perform maintenance and custodial duties as assigned by the supervisor
• Understand County personnel policy and departmental policies

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Up to two years college/48 hours course work can be substituted for two years’ experience
• Experience in general maintenance or custodial work
• Knowledge in at least one construction trade such as plumbing, air conditioning/refrigeration/heating, carpentry, or painting
• Must pass annual Detention Center security and protocol training and adhere to New Mexico Detention Center safety standards

Qualifications

• Driver’s license
• Pre-employment physical
• Post-offer drug analysis test

Skills

• Some knowledge of business and personal computers and inventory software applications
• Ability to read and understand plans and blueprints
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English
• Ability to use all equipment, hand, and power tools in a proficient manner
• Highly skilled in HVAC, painting, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical
