What this job involves
The Facility Maintenance Assistant / Facilities Support team member plays a key role in maintaining the daily operations of a life sciences facility. This position supports building maintenance, laboratory support activities, and general facility services to ensure the site operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory and workplace standards.
- Assists with preventive maintenance

- Aids with furniture assembly, office moves, and workspace installations
- Performs minor facility repairs
- Maintains inventory of facility supplies
- Supports during facility inspections, operational needs, or emergency situations
What your day-to-day will look like
- Perform routine facility inspections and daily rounds throughout the building including laboratories, kitchens, conference rooms, reception areas, and common spaces to ensure cleanliness, organization, and proper operation
- Conduct scheduled lab rounds to monitor environmental conditions, identify facility-related issues, and report concerns impacting laboratory operations
- Maintain and support facility equipment and infrastructure, including basic troubleshooting and reporting issues related to HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems
- Assist with preventive maintenance activities on mechanical, plumbing, fire and life safety, and control systems
- Respond to and complete assigned service requests and work orders through the facility CMMS system (RAM – Blue Mountain)
- Clean, maintain, and restock common areas including kitchenettes, cafeteria refrigerators, and shared workspaces
- Assist with conference room setup and breakdown for meetings and site events
- Perform minor facility repairs such as lighting replacements, minor equipment adjustments, and general building upkeep
- Maintain inventory of facility supplies and assist with ordering and organization of materials
- Provide support during facility inspections, operational needs, or emergency situations as required
Other Responsibilities
- Conduct safety shower inspections across 60+ locations to ensure proper functionality and compliance
- Perform fire extinguisher inspections across approximately 50 locations, ensuring accessibility and proper condition
- Check exterior emergency blue light phones for functionality
- Monitor and inspect AHU (Air Handling Units) and EF (Exhaust Fans) for basic operation
- Inspect kitchenette areas for safety and maintenance needs
- Walkthrough conference rooms to identify upkeep or operational issues

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or work order systems
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to perform general maintenance and facility support tasks in a commercial or laboratory environment
- Strong organizational and customer service skills
- Experience supporting laboratory operations or performing facility/lab rounds
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in various facility areas including storage spaces and mechanical rooms
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour safety training
- Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience working in laboratory, life sciences, or regulated facility environments
Additional Considerations
- Participation in an on-call rotation schedule may be required
