About the role
The City of Aurora is seeking a Facilities Trades Supervisor to lead and support a team of skilled trades professionals in maintaining and improving municipal facilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead, schedule, and evaluate a team of skilled trades personnel
- Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to support staff development
- Prioritize and assign work orders, projects, and emergency responses
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and collaborative work environment
- Oversee daily maintenance and repair activities for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing for City facilities
- Ensure completion of preventive maintenance programs and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Troubleshoot complex building system issues and provide technical guidance to staff
- Coverage of contractor work, ensuring quality control and adherence to specifications
- Assist in planning and executing small to medium scale facility improvement projects
- Review plans, specifications, and cost estimates; provide input on scope, materials, and scheduling
- Maintain accurate records of work orders, asset data, inspections, and maintenance activities
- Support budget development by providing input on equipment and material needs
- Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and City policies
- Prepare reports, documentation, and recommendations for management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for facilities trades maintenance requests from City departments
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory agencies
Qualifications
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
- Education: High School Diploma
- Experience: Eight (8) years of experience in building maintenance or a skilled trade, Three years or more in a supervisory role
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience in municipal, institutional, or commercial facilities strongly preferred, Completion of a technical certification, apprenticeship program, or associate degree in a skilled trade, facilities management, construction technology or a related field, Certification in Building Operator (BOC), Facility Manager (CFM), HVAC related credentials (EPA 608, NATE), OSHA 30 hour safety certification
- Licenses And Certifications: Colorado driver’s license in good standing, Trades license or certification in one of the following fields: Master/Journeyman Plumber, Electrician, or HVAC Certification
- Knowledge: Knowledge of building systems; HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and Building Automation Systems (BAS), Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and specifications, Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), Knowledge of safety practices and regulatory compliance
- Skills: Strong interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills, Strong project management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, and documentation, Skill in the use of windows-based software such as Word, Excel, etc, Excellent oral and written presentation skills
- Abilities: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, all levels of management including executive staff, citizens, and elected officials, Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy, Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, Establish and fulfill goals and objectives, Effectively supervise a diverse workforce, Plan and schedule work unit operations, Applies critical thinking and sound judgment to resolve problems and manage challenging situations, Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to emergencies
