Facilities Technician
About the role
The Facilities Technician at POET is responsible for ensuring the production environment is in a suitable, compliant condition for Safe Food/Safe Feed – and/or FSSC certification to be maintained. This role includes sweeping and power-washing floors, removing dust and products from facilities, operating heavy equipment, and general grounds maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Sweep and power-wash floors, walls, and equipment in process areas using industrial equipment.
- Remove dust, corn, and feed products from facility grounds, building floors, and walls on all levels and in all areas of the facility.
- Operate POET heavy equipment for maintenance and cleanup of process and grounds areas (skid steers, loaders, industrial vacuum equipment, and other equipment as needed).
- Aid in removing snow from sidewalks, roadways, parking areas, and spreading snow melting chemicals and sand.
- Perform general grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, weed maintenance, chemical application, and grounds debris removal.
- Identify and communicate equipment repair needs through POET’s maintenance workflow system.
- Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental and food safety compliance at all times.
- Maintain and advance the food safety and quality of POET’s products and processes to deliver a best-in-class culture of quality.
- Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community.
Qualifications & Skills
- A high school diploma or equivalent education.
- Valid Driver’s license.
- Practical decision-making.
- General safety awareness and willingness to take direction on task completion.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently on various projects.
- Knowledge of the basics of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new programs.
- High level of personal integrity.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, self-contained breathing systems, hazardous material suits, and hearing protection.
- Work at extreme heights (approximately 150 ft), in confined spaces, and in extreme temperatures from -20 to +100 degrees Fahrenheit, both indoors and outdoors.
- Use equipment/tools such as cleaning cart and supplies, forklift, riding and push lawn mower, bobcat sweeper, vacuum, snow blower, shovel, broom, mop, and ladder.
- Frequently walk on slippery surfaces.
- Push and pull with a force of up to 30lbs.
- Bend forward while standing.
- Use repetitive arm motions to wipe down and maintain work area.
- Lift up to 50lbs, with or without assistance.
- Carry up to 50lbs with or without assistance.
- Be in awkward back, shoulder, wrists, and hand positions.
