GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Facilities Projects Manager position plans, coordinates, tracks, closes out, and manages all assigned projects and manages the work of the University of Maryland on-call contractors and outside contractors. Projects managed would include emergency projects - flood/fire/mold/asbestos abatement/natural disasters, life safety, small-scale renovations, concrete, masonry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, painting, carpentry, steel/iron works, roofing, and tree trimming. The incumbent is responsible for communicating with customers and internal users regarding preferred construction methods, materials, and timelines. The incumbent will develop solutions for and complete projects without completed design specifications or drawings.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Required to work from ladders, lifts, or scaffolding
  • To work in, on, around, over, and under fixed equipment and machinery
  • To manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies, and exert force up to 70 lbs
  • Required to work in hazardous or irritating environments and adverse weather or temperature conditions
  • Required to wear and work in personal protective equipment
  • Work includes repetitive motion; the incumbent will be required to inspect work, involving bending, stooping, walking, and climbing
  • Extended hours due to weather emergencies, delayed openings and early closings, and system changeovers
  • Will require working outside in cold weather for extended periods of time, which may occur outside of regular working hours

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in a facility of comparable size/scope is preferred
  • Journeyman level knowledge of a building trade such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical
  • A driver's license with fewer than 6 points is required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Experience: Three (3) years of facilities, operations, construction, renovation, or maintenance experience
  • Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of facilities management
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace products
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments
  • Ability to utilize estimating software
