About The Opportunity

The HVAC/R & Plumbing Supervisor oversees the operation, maintenance, and optimization of building automation systems and HVAC/R equipment, ensuring effective control of heating, cooling, and plumbing infrastructure throughout Washington County facilities. This role leads and directs a team of HVAC and plumbing professionals, manages budgets and resources, and handles contract oversight for related services. The supervisor also coordinates and contributes to large-scale capital improvement projects involving the replacement and enhancement of mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Oversee operation, maintenance, and optimization of building automation systems and HVAC/R equipment.
• Lead and direct a team of HVAC and plumbing professionals.
• Manage budgets and resources for HVAC/R and plumbing services.
• Provide contract oversight for related services.
• Coordinate and contribute to large-scale capital improvement projects involving mechanical systems.
• Manipulate DDC systems for large facilities, including chillers, boilers, hydronic loops, air handlers, fan coils, and commissioning.
• Operate, repair, and maintain complex electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems such as HVAC, air compressors, security alarm systems, switches, lighting, security systems, and fire alarm equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs.
• Use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions and approaches to problems.
• Utilize software and computerized tools, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Four (4) years of journey-level experience as an HVAC and/or DDC/BAS technician, including a minimum of two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience.
• EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (Universal).
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per Washington County policy (for some positions).
• Must pass a WCSO criminal background check and maintain access to all spaces.
• May be required to report to work during off-duty hours for emergency situations.

Skills

• Proper methods, procedures, tools, and equipment used in heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and plumbing trades.
• Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
• Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.

Washington County Facilities, Fleet, & Parks Department is responsible for the maintenance and operation of approximately 38 owned and leased sites encompassing 1.9 million sq ft of commercial-type building environments.
