Facilities Night Supervisor
About the role
The Facilities Mechanic and Night Supervisor is responsible for monitoring and administering the maintenance, repair, and operation of the JCC Leventhal-Sidman campus grounds, buildings/structures, mechanical systems, and equipment. This role also serves as the on-site management presence during evening, weekend, and special event periods, providing supervisory oversight of building operations staff and coordinating facilities operations for internal and external rentals and events.
Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Facility Maintenance & Operations
- Maintain and repair the building's heating and air conditioning (HVAC) system; follow preventative maintenance schedules for all HVAC equipment, including replacing/cleaning filters, belts, motor bearings, dampers, controls, pumps, and heating/cooling units.
- Maintain and repair all lighting fixtures including emergency lighting systems; replace bulbs, tubes, sockets, lenses, and ballasts as needed; inspect emergency battery units, exterior, and parking lot lighting monthly.
- Maintain and repair all plumbing fixtures throughout the building.
- Conduct scheduled and unscheduled equipment and facility maintenance and/or repairs as needed.
- Address emergent maintenance and/or repair work on the Leventhal-Sidman campus, its buildings, systems, structures, or grounds.
- Perform snow removal duties during winter months, including after-hours coverage; service all gas-powered equipment including snow blowers and generators.
- Ensure a safe working environment and proper use of PPE; comply with OSHA, EPA, and industry-specific safety standards.
- Complete required documentation including responding to and updating the work order system.
Pool Systems Maintenance
- Inspect, maintain, and repair pool mechanical systems including pumps, filters, motors, chemical feeders, and heaters for both indoor and outdoor pool facilities.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate water chemistry, including testing and adjusting pH, chlorine, and other chemical levels to ensure water balance and sanitation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with plumbing, electrical systems, and water circulation related to pool infrastructure.
- Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance on all pool equipment and systems; maintain accurate maintenance and repair logs.
- Assist with seasonal pool opening and closing procedures; monitor outdoor pool conditions daily during summer months.
- Ensure compliance with local health and safety codes and environmental regulations for aquatic facilities.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the pool mechanical room and storage areas.
- Respond promptly to pool-related maintenance issues or emergencies; coordinate with vendors or contractors for major repairs or installations.
After-Hours & Night Supervision
- Serve as the on-site management presence at the Leventhal-Sidman JCC after regular business hours and on Sundays, ensuring smooth operation of the entire facility.
- Direct all on-site staff during evening and weekend shifts; serve as the management point of contact for emergencies, incidents, or problems.
- Oversight of building operations staff including cleaning, security, and engineering personnel while on duty.
- Conduct periodic walkthroughs of the entire building and grounds during each shift to demonstrate management presence and identify maintenance issues.
- Conduct periodic inspections of cleaning throughout the building as directed by the Facilities Director.
- Serve as mediator between staff members and/or members and guests to resolve any conflicts or problems; interpret membership policies and procedures as needed.
- Provide written reports on shift activities and security incidents; submit reports to the Facilities Director.
- Carry a pager or cell phone and remain available on an on-call basis during building emergencies or weather events.
- Monitor building alarm system, cameras and HVAC remotely in conjunction with Facilities Director.
- Enforce parking rules and regulations.
Special Events Coordination
- Serve as the point person for all internal and external rentals of building space, including the Theater, Gym, and meeting rooms.
- Cover room set-up and clean-up, staffing custodial support, technical coordination with Tech staff, and arranging police details when needed.
- Conduct walkthroughs with representatives of renters prior to event; accept delivery of all materials pertaining to rentals; confirm understanding of all catering needs.
- Generate rental agreements and oversee collection of rental fees for all external rentals.
- Auxiliary with special projects such as construction coordination and contractor oversight.
- Work with outside vendors such as food service and security to help them meet their contracted service goals.
Administrative, Supply & Vendor Management
- Inform the Facilities Director of any equipment or facility issues that may affect safety or the building environment.
- Track inventory; perform spare parts research and procurement via Internet search or vendor contacts; inform the Facilities Director of any shortages of critical facility system spare parts.
- Order supplies, chemicals, and equipment; maintain stock in accordance with budget guidelines and with the approval of the Facilities Director.
- Schedule contractors for repairs and deliveries; coordinate with vendors for major repairs or installations.
- Participate in long-term planning, budgeting, and equipment lifecycle management.
- Respond to emergency maintenance issues during and outside regular working hours as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Oversight of building operations staff (cleaning and janitorial staff) during evening and weekend shifts.
Qualifications
Requires a High School Diploma and a minimum of 5 years of related experience in general maintenance, facilities management, or property management, including experience with staff supervision.
Preferred: Experience with parts procurement/ordering; experience in customer-facing or event coordination roles.
Skills And Abilities
Effective working knowledge in general maintenance, plumbing, electrical, mechanical repairs, and swimming pool maintenance.
In-depth understanding of mechanical systems and repair; ability to diagnose and troubleshoot systems.
Skilled in executing machine and equipment maintenance; expertise in using hand tools, power tools, and snow removal equipment.
Ability to read and follow schematics, service manuals, and written instructions.
Demonstrated organizational and time management skills; ability to multitask and manage situations effectively and diplomatically.
Self-starter who takes initiative; able to adapt to evolving needs and circumstances.
Excellent interpersonal and active listening skills; record of successfully working well independently and collaboratively.

CPO (Certified Pool Operator) certification preferred.
Valid driver's license and personal transportation required.
Physical Requirements
This position requires a full-time, on-site presence with evening and weekend availability.
Must be able to work well in a busy, dynamic, and sometimes noisy environment involving multiple tasks and priorities.
