This includes cleanroom air systems, exhaust and abatement systems, chilled water, cooling towers, steam systems, closed-loop water systems (PCW), and CDA, instrument air, and process vacuum systems. The role ensures reliable, efficient, and compliant delivery of mechanical infrastructure to support cleanroom and manufacturing operations. Additionally, this role will lead facilities mechanical operations, including building and managing the mechanical engineering and technician teams, developing standard operating procedures (SOPs), preventive maintenance (PM) programs, and ensuring long-term system reliability and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of HVAC and process mechanical engineers and technicians, including hiring, performance management, and technical coaching.
  • Establish and implement operational frameworks including SOPs, preventive maintenance (PM) programs, and maintenance strategies to ensure system reliability and uptime.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of:
    • HVAC systems, cleanroom environmental controls, and exhaust systems.
    • Process utilities including chilled water, cooling towers, condenser water, steam, process cooling water, heating hot water, and air systems (CDA, instrument air, vacuum systems).
    • Water treatment practices for closed-loop water systems, including chemical treatment, filtration, corrosion control, and biological control.
    • Material compatibility for process piping and utility systems to prevent corrosion, scaling, and contamination risks.
    • Semiconductor tool hookup design.
  • Collaborate with base build and tool hookup design consultants to ensure HVAC/exhaust and process utility system requirements are met.
  • Review engineering drawings, submittals, and monitor construction progress.
  • Lead coordination across all trade partners (mechanical, electrical, controls, CSA, vendors, and general contractors) to ensure integrated system design, constructability, and seamless execution from design through operations.
  • Identify and resolve abnormalities during construction, start-up, and operations phases.
  • Oversee documentation, manuals, and handover processes for HVAC and process utility systems.
  • Address Out-of-Control Action Plan (OCAP) conditions affecting cleanroom environments and utility performance.
  • Monitor system performance through trend analysis, inspections, and technical reporting.
  • Lead capacity planning, troubleshooting, and sustaining activities to meet production demands.
  • Identify and implement energy efficiency and sustainability improvements across HVAC and process systems.
  • Research and implement technology upgrades to improve reliability, efficiency, and safety.
  • Partner with operations and maintenance teams to optimize system performance and maintenance strategies.
  • Conduct system evaluations and implement improvements through capital and expense projects.
  • Apply reliability engineering principles, including FMEA and root cause analysis, to improve system performance.
  • Review tool hook-up designs, exhaust layouts, and process schematics, and perform engineering inspections.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in HVAC and/or process utilities engineering (design and operations), preferably in semiconductor or high-tech manufacturing.
  • 2+ years of experience leading engineering and/or facilities operations teams is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, MS Office, and Bluebeam.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in design, construction, commissioning, start-up, and sustaining operations.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) is mandatory.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and awkward positions.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 lbs and adjust heavy objects.
  • Exposure to sharp, hot, and cold equipment.
  • Must be medically qualified to wear a respirator.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at elevation, and in confined spaces with PPE.

Location
