About the role

This position involves maintaining a safe and secure environment by touring the facility and grounds, investigating alarms, and ensuring mechanical systems function properly. You will manage stock to support facility par-levels, prepare inventories, and perform a variety of maintenance tasks. The role requires working varied hours, including weekends, holidays, evenings, and days.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect equipment and facility for proper operation and working conditions; perform routine equipment inspections, repairs, and adjustments.
  • Use snakes, augers, or plungers to open clogged drains.
  • Troubleshoot and replace TVs, remote controls, nurse call lights, and similar equipment.
  • Proficiently use standard hand tools, voltmeters, and amp meters.
  • Perform routine manual duties such as repairs, assembling carts and furniture, replacing fluorescent ballasts and tubes, cleaning and lubricating motors, and changing air filters.
  • Move supplies, furniture, and equipment; remove trash and scrap materials; perform housekeeping duties.
  • Conduct routine safety and preventive maintenance inspections to ensure uninterrupted services.
  • Patch and paint walls as needed.
  • Maintain departmental policies, procedures, and objectives concerning quality assurance, safety, environmental conditions, and infection control.
  • Assume responsibility for personal and professional growth through departmental meetings, in-service programs, and continuing education.
  • Work a flexible schedule and be available for overtime call-back for emergencies (on-call).
  • Travel to alternate facilities as required.
  • Perform other job-related duties as instructed by supervisors, subject to reasonable accommodation.
  • Serve as the backup Safety Officer for the facility.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in the maintenance field, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Basic Healthcare Security knowledge.
  • Ability to perform routine and preventive maintenance.
  • Responsibility for general and emergency maintenance throughout the facility.
  • Ability to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Preferred: Joint Commission knowledge.

Skills

  • Basic knowledge of operation and maintenance of various types of hospital equipment.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet time standards for work orders and assigned preventive maintenance (PMs).
  • Demonstrated initiative in assuming responsibilities.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, frequent use of stairs, and climbing ladders.
  • Verbal and written interaction with patients, employees, and other departments.

Qualifications

  • Desired: Any form of license or certification in HVAC, plumbing, or electrical.

Schedule

Varied hours, including weekends, holidays, evenings, and days. Flexible schedule with availability for overtime call-back for emergencies (on-call).
