About the Role

The Facilities Manager works closely with cross-department staff and partners (including National Park Service) to operate overnight school programs and summer day camps at a historic Cabin Camp facility. This position is located at Prince William Forest Park, a National Park in northern Virginia, and cannot be performed remotely. The role includes a seasonally variable work schedule based on program season.

Responsibilities

  • Facility, Infrastructure, and Equipment
    • Coordinate with National Park Service Building and Utility staff, Roads and Trails staff, Cabin Camp staff, Camp Hosts, and others to ensure maintenance, repairs, and improvement of buildings and grounds within a historic district in the Park are communicated and addressed effectively.
    • Asset management, including ordering and inventorying supplies/equipment using existing and developing systems; maintain all campus assets such as furniture, ice machine, and industrial dishwasher.
    • Conduct and process annual Fire and Safety inspections as required by NatureBridge and NPS. Address any issues and deficiencies in a timely manner to maintain compliance.
    • Support Campus Director in planning, prioritizing, and implementing capital projects in conjunction with NPS personnel, aligned with NatureBridge’s Facility Use Strategy.
  • Staff Housing
    • Manage staff housing logistics, including assignments and conducting move-in and move-out inspections.
    • Track and respond to maintenance and repair requests in a timely manner, including communication with NPS personnel or other landlords as needed.
    • Identify and acquire appropriate staff housing units as needed.
  • Fleet Operations
    • Operate and conduct routine maintenance for vehicles according to established procedures, including an SUV, a single-axle enclosed trailer, and a Utility Task Vehicle (UTV).
    • Maintain up-to-date registration, inspections, and maintenance records for all vehicles.
    • Conduct Vehicle Orientation for staff drivers and maintain records.
    • Manage bus drop-off area and parking zones.
  • Daily Campus Care
    • Ensure the campus is safe, clean, and presentable to participants, employees, and partners.
    • Conduct routine, annual, and emergency repair, maintenance, and custodial duties; respond to maintenance needs in a timely manner.
    • Complete basic daily care tasks on campus, including light cleaning of cabins and bathrooms, cabin areas, and other campus buildings and grounds.
    • Manage custodial supplies and equipment.
    • Provide essential support during programs (e.g., direct bus traffic, filling water stations).
    • Take a leadership role in all campus opening and closing work days and seasonal transition days.
    • Perform physical tasks such as moving equipment, supplies, and furniture; operate campus vehicles for moving days.
  • General Responsibilities
    • Work strategically with the Mid-Atlantic leadership team to address campus-specific facility-related opportunities or challenges.
    • Work with the Risk Management Director and Campus Director to implement and model excellent risk management practices and maintain a safe environment for students and staff.
    • Assist with emergency responses as needed.
    • Manage an expense budget as assigned for all areas of oversight and ensure operations align with the budget.
    • Cultivate a collaborative, customer service-oriented campus environment.
    • Demonstrate responsible environmental behavior.
    • Monitor and respond to customer feedback related to facilities; recommend and implement improvements.
    • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor with all guests, PRWI visitors, and PRWI-NPS employees.
    • Interact with guests, students, staff, and NPS staff in a friendly and professional manner.
    • Represent the campus on the NatureBridge Facilities Team.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years of applicable industry experience, including two or more years in facility management and/or building maintenance.
  • Knowledge of maintenance issues including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and grounds care.
  • One or more years of experience in company vehicle maintenance; experience driving with a trailer.
  • Demonstrated commitment to work consistently to high standards; high level of integrity; excellent work ethic.
  • Ability to implement and model excellent risk management practices and maintain a safe environment for participants and staff.
  • Current First Aid certification and CPR certification or willingness to receive training shortly after being hired (stipend may be available).
  • Ability to learn and use computer software such as Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Forms, Drive).
  • Able to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment; willingness to be coached and open to feedback.
  • Flexible to changing demands; able to maintain a positive and professional attitude and respectful communication in an environment with conflicting priorities.
  • Thorough, decisive, with strong analytical ability, sound organizational, problem-solving, and technical skills; good judgment, excellent task and time management, and record-keeping skills; extremely detail-oriented; well-organized and self-directed.
  • Experience working creatively with limited resources to achieve maximum impact.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with diverse groups of employees, vendors, and partners in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English; ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish a plus.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex legal and financial documents such as contracts and invoices.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence clearly.
  • Ability to perform physically challenging work outdoors in all weather conditions on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Valid and current driver’s license necessary.
  • Familiarity with the National Park Service and knowledge of the Historic Preservation Act.
