Primary Function
Under the direction of the Pastor, or School Principal, or other assigned manager, the Facilities Manager is responsible for managing the maintenance of a parish and school including buildings, equipment, grounds, and their related upkeep. Also responsible for managing other employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the Church’s spiritual and pastoral mission.
- Abside by Catholic principles in the employee’s professional and private life and govern his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures.
- Develop an annual facilities maintenance budget and present the same to the pastor or school principal for approval.
- Manage the budget within applicable guidelines; communicate any budget issues or concerns with the pastor or school principal on a timely basis.
- Ensure maintenance and upkeep of grounds; supervise employees as assigned.
- Oversee the development of all new construction, renovations and restoration of property and other facilities including heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
- Be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of machines, tools, equipment and other maintenance and procedures.
- Ensure that all assigned buildings are functional and compliant with building code regulations.
- Secure Building and occupants by maintaining alarm and fire protection devices.
- Arrange for purchase of routine maintenance and repair supplies and equipment.
- Maintain and be accountable for inventory records on tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Prepare all applicable contracts for maintenance and upkeep of facilities and present for approval.
- Assist in the development of a budget for maintenance and upkeep of facilities; manage the facility within allowed budget.
- Assist in securing insurance providers as necessary; manage the insurance portfolio, including claims; prepare insurance certificates.
- Manage all assigned personnel in accordance with established personnel guidelines.
- Maintain a working knowledge of relevant issues, laws, and regulations; continued professional education in relevant areas.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment in the grounds and buildings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal facilities operation's environment.
Basic Qualifications
- Must have a working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church; must be in full communion with the Catholic Church.
- Excellent communications skills, verbal and written; human relations, and interpersonal skills.
- Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, parishioners and the public.
- Must be a self-starter; well organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency.
- A working knowledge of budgeting and finances.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; punctuality is a must; ability to travel locally as required.
- Proficiency in computer technology to include word-processing, spreadsheets and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of construction practices, heating, cooling and ventilation, and ground maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of commercial construction policies; understanding of building codes and regulations.
- Knowledge of insurance programs.
- Ability to successfully pass a background, criminal history, and credit history check.
- Possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
- Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance.
Education and Experience
- Associate degree in architecture or facilities management or equivalent education.
- 2 years practical experience in facilities management.
- 2 years experience in an architecture, engineering, or construction environment.
- Experience with heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and cooling systems (HVAC).
Other / Preferred Skills
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
