About the job

We are looking for a Controls Engineer to join our team at our Arsenal 1 campus. In this role, you will own the operation, reliability, and expansion of the Building Management System (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) across the campus. You will collaborate with facilities managers, equipment owners, and external integration partners to ensure our complex HVAC, electrical distribution, and critical utility systems run at peak performance. This role requires a deep technical understanding of control theory, industrial networks, electrical systems, and software integration.

What you’ll do

  • Own the day-to-day operation, programming, and optimization of the campus BMS and EPMS.
  • Program, configure, and troubleshoot Direct Digital Control (DDC) and PLC systems, graphics, and alarm structures.
  • Manage external controls contractors and system integrators during facility expansions, retrofits, and capital improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with the MEP engineering and operations teams to review sequences of operations (SOO) and commission new equipment.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on system failures, temperature/pressure excursions, and power quality anomalies using data trends and analytics.
  • Ensure the integrity and cybersecurity of the Operational Technology (OT) network in close coordination with our IT and Information Security teams.
  • Create user-friendly dashboards, graphics, and automated reports for energy tracking, utility usage, and equipment runtime.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including control schematics, system architecture diagrams, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Required qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in controls engineering, building automation, or industrial instrumentation, preferably in aerospace, defense, semiconductor, data centers, or advanced manufacturing facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and programming Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS).
  • Deep knowledge of communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, TCP/IP) and low-voltage electrical systems.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical/electrical drawings, P&IDs, and sequence of operations documents.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience with control panels, controllers, VFDs, flow meters, actuators, and environmental sensors.
  • Experience managing controls vendors, system integrators, and electrical contractors.
  • Proven ability to work independently with ambiguity, managing multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and an attitude of 100% compliance with all safety, company, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to handle emergencies outside of normal working hours.
  • Physical capability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. and work in industrial environments (ladders, mechanical rooms, etc.).
  • Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.
