Responsible for the daily monitoring and reporting of all environmental storage units, performing preventive maintenance, and repairing refrigeration equipment and monitoring systems for the Repository department. This role ensures compliance with company equipment/system validation and maintenance programs and completes simple to intermediate repairs for all repository-related equipment.
Responsibilities
- Monitor freezers, refrigerators, and room temperatures as assigned by the Manager.
- Respond to freezer alarms in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Perform preventive maintenance on refrigeration equipment, including:
- Changing alarm batteries on mechanical freezers.
- Cleaning air filters and compressor compartments to ensure they are free of dust and debris.
- Conducting 15-point inspections of critical systems (e.g., oil level, compressor operation, electrical demand, temperature sensor calibration).
- Performing performance qualifications of all refrigeration equipment.
- Inspect and repair refrigeration, lab equipment, central monitoring systems, and emergency generators:
- Review equipment failures and evaluate potential causes with minimal supervision.
- Repair issues as capable.
- Perform weekly inspections of emergency generators.
- Install and maintain low-voltage wiring for the Central Monitoring System.
- Respond to equipment failures during and after regular business hours as directed.
- Participate in the Facilities Group On-Call rotation.
- Assist in specimen relocations as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 0-1 years of related experience.
- Ability to install low-voltage electrical wiring.
- Must have or be willing to obtain a DOT-certified medical exam card in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (49 CFR 391.41-391.49).
- Required to drive vehicles up to 25,999 lbs GVW; must maintain a safe driving record and provide annual proof.
- Flexible, agile team player capable of adapting to changing business needs.
- Ability to lift and carry 31-50 lbs; lift up to 50 lbs overhead with assistance.
- Frequently required to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods; occasionally squat, bend, stoop, push, kneel, reach, and perform tasks with repetitive motion.
- Exposure to cold freezer environments (temperatures range between -20°C to -196°C).
- Must be able to read, write, speak fluently, and comprehend the English language.

- Facilities or laboratory-related experience.
Pay
Reasonable estimate of the current range: $18 USD - $26.30 USD per hour.
