Qualifications

Must currently be a Fort Wayne Community Schools high school junior or senior.

Must have some office computer and oral and written communication skills.

Essential Functions

• Assist a certified teacher as they instruct individual or small groups of students in a classroom environment.
• Assist in monitoring and overseeing student drills, practices, and assignments in various subjects.
• Assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework, and projects in various subject areas; assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude, and general guidance.
• Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing, typing, duplicating, and filing instructional materials.
• Assist designated adult in monitoring students during outdoor and recess activities as required; monitor and report progress regarding student performance and behavior.
• Read books to students and observe their reading abilities as assigned by the position; assist students with letter and word pronunciation and recognition as required; assist students with spelling and writing exercises and assignments.
• Provide classroom support to the teacher by preparing and setting up work areas, decorations, posters, and displays and distributing and collecting paper supplies and materials.
• Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; maintain classroom and other assigned areas in a safe, orderly, and clean manner.
• Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to speak and hear.
• Required to have dexterity of hands and fingers.
• Required to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
• Occasionally required to bend at the waist, kneel, or crouch.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
• Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions.
