Summary Of Job
The Extrusion Team Lead oversees daily operations on the production floor, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment. They are responsible for maintaining 5S standards, driving safety and quality initiatives, and supporting continuous improvement efforts.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
- Escalates issues and process disruptions to maximize productivity.
- Coaches operators in best practices to foster a safe and productive culture.
- Assists the Supervisor in promoting safety throughout the production floor.
- Instills a "safety first" mindset within the group.
- Trains, coaches, and holds employees accountable for maintaining area standards such as 5S and following standardized work.
- Identifies and addresses opportunities for coaching and improvement through Gemba walks and metric/visual management reviews.
- Serves as a problem solver, applying Root Cause Corrective Action methodologies.
- Performs production duties and fills in as needed to cover for absenteeism and vacation.
- Supports 5S principles and participates in continuous improvement activities.
- Maintains process parameters and records, troubleshoots processes and equipment, and makes minor adjustments as necessary.
- Drives daily Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) efforts with operators and maintenance personnel.
- Escalates issues promptly with relevant background information and facts.
- Schedules tasks efficiently and spends sufficient time directly engaging with the team.
- Demonstrates adherence to leadership standardized work (LSW) and regularly reviews and amends LSW to reflect current conditions and task focus.
- Assigns team members based on production needs and attendance at the start of each shift.
- Impresses upon the team a sense of urgency to meet and maintain productivity and quality targets.
Competency (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)
- Exposure to lean tools such as 5S, Root Cause/Corrective Actions, Standardized Work, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and Daily Management System (Visual).
- Aptitude for math, problem-solving, computers, and mechanics.
- Attention to detail and good color vision.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with others.
- Able to map basic production processes and associated risks.

- Inside work.
- May be exposed to heat exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
- May be exposed to humidity exceeding 80%.
- May be exposed to noise exceeding 85 dB+.
Physical Characteristics
- Frequent standing, stooping, squatting.
- (Up to 50 pounds) lifting and carrying.

Education And Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree preferred.
- 2 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to mechanical machinery.
