Extruder Operator II (2nd shift)

About the role

The Operator, Extruder 2 is a high-skill role responsible for setting up and operating extrusion lines and related equipment, including nylon extruders, coilers, pay-offs, and take-ups (manual or automatic). These lines may operate as single or two-person lines based on complexity. Examples of machines under this role include Jacket/Romex and Tandem Lines (BWP) and Circuit Size THHN Extruder and Jacket/Romex Lines (North Campus).

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must read, write, and speak English; bilingual in Spanish is a plus
• Ability to stand and lift heavy loads for long periods
• Ability to read and comprehend production orders and complex equipment instrumentation
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, etc.)
• Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs

Responsibilities

• Work under supervision and maintain communication with supervisors and peers
• Properly set up extrusion lines and related equipment with correct tip, die, and wire size
• Maintain correct wire size, insulation thickness, and concentricity
• Apply correct print of acceptable quality on cable
• Adhere to Southwire safety rules, maintain good housekeeping, and perform assigned duties
• Use proper compound and correct amounts of color concentrate
• Minimize wire and compound loss during start-up and change-overs
• Maintain correct inventory of WIP tags daily
• Cross-train on equipment within the identified workgroup
• Rotate within the workgroup to maintain skill proficiency
• Follow the company’s ISO Quality System documentation for daily quality activities
• Do not release products until all quality checks are passed
• Immediately report quality issues to supervisors or quality managers
• Follow all company environmental rules and safety procedures
• Wear all required PPE and review Job Hazard Analyses and Safety Data Sheets
• Maintain work areas to 5S standards
• Perform pre-operation safety inspections and hazard analyses
• Dispose of scrap in designated bins

Physical/Environmental Demands

• Physical activities include: balance, climbing, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, standing, stooping, walking, and sitting
• Ability to work in hot and cold environments typical of a prefabricated building without climate control
• Constant exposure to water, heat, cold, dust, and fumes

2nd Shift (Monday–Friday, 2:50 PM–11:00 PM)

Pay

$32.02 – $34.06 per hour
