About the role
Southwire Company, LLC, a leader in technology and innovation, is seeking an Operator, Extruder 2 to set up and operate extrusion lines and related equipment, including nylon extruders, coilers, pay-offs, and take-ups (manual or automatic). This high-skill role may involve single or two-person lines based on product complexity, such as Jacket/Romex, Tandem Lines (BWP), Circuit Size THHN Extruder, and Jacket/Romex Lines (North Campus).
Responsibilities
- Work under supervision and maintain communication with supervisors and peers through verbal instruction and reports.
- Lift up to 45 lbs and place scrap into designated bins.
- Set up extrusion lines and related equipment with the correct tip, die, and wire size.
- Maintain correct wire size, insulation thickness, and concentricity.
- Apply correct print of acceptable quality on cable.
- Observe Southwire safety rules, maintain good housekeeping, and perform all assigned duties.
- Use proper compound and correct amounts of color concentrate.
- Minimize wire and compound loss during start-up and change-overs.
- Maintain correct inventory of WIP tags daily.
- Cross-train on equipment within your identified workgroup and rotate on a set frequency to maintain skill proficiency.
- Use the company’s ISO Quality System documentation to guide daily quality activities.
- Do not release products until all quality checks are passed; report quality issues immediately to supervisors or quality managers.
- Follow all company environmental rules and handle materials to minimize environmental impact.
- Wear all required PPE and review Job Hazard Analyses and Safety Data Sheets for assigned jobs.
- Maintain work areas to 5S standards and perform pre-operation safety inspections.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English; bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Ability to stand and lift heavy loads for long periods.
- Ability to read and comprehend production orders and complex equipment instrumentation.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, etc.).
Physical/Environmental Demands
- Physical activities include: balance, climbing, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, standing, stooping, walking, and sitting.
- Ability to work in hot and cold environments typical of a prefabricated building without climate control.
- Constant exposure to water, heat, cold, dust, and fumes.

Pay
$30.79 – $32.75 per hour.
Schedule
2nd Shift (Monday – Friday, 2:50 PM – 11:00 PM).
Location: Villa Rica Plant.
