Extractive Process Development Metallurgist
JOB SUMMARY
The Extractive Process Development Metallurgist is responsible for leading the development, planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of metal reclaim processes and extractive, refining, and purification technologies for Indium Corporation’s existing and prospective businesses.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (COMPETENCIES)
Lead efforts in developing, implementing, and supporting manufacturing processes for indium, gallium, and related metals: recycling, recovery, and refining
Responsible for development and support of manufacturing processes
Develop and implement optimized, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with customer, product, or process specifications, quality requirements, and standards while following a structured in-house development process
Improve manufacturing processes and methods to drive cost reductions, quality improvements, and process efficiencies
Provide hands-on technical support and training for manufacturing processes and personnel
Ensure work is being performed in compliance with corporate quality standards, sound engineering principles, and project management best practices
Author complete and comprehensive documentation including, but not limited to, engineering design documents and drawings, operating procedures, and work instructions according to established quality management standards
Employ project management techniques to lead projects and ensure management is updated on project status, issues, and risk mitigation items
Understand and apply statistical process control and lean manufacturing principles
Lead and participate in cross-functional teams for process development, process improvement, root cause investigations, customer complaints, etc.
Create and provide input to project cost estimates, ROI calculations, timelines, milestones, etc.
Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with company health and safety protocols
Function as an effective team member through collaboration, conflict resolution, encouragement, respectful interactions with co-workers, active listening, etc.
Work independently on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in metallurgy, materials science, or chemical engineering required; master’s degree is preferred
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field may be considered with 2 years prior relevant work experience
Understanding of fundamental engineering and chemistry of metals extraction: ion exchange, solvent extraction, smelting, redox, electrolytic processes, etc.
Hands-on extractive metallurgy process development knowledge and experience
Electrical, programming, and control systems development and operation knowledge is a plus
Communicate in a clear, organized, and professional manner in both written and oral form
