Process Development Engineer I, Purification Development

About the role

The Process Development Engineer will develop and support purification processes for pre-clinical and clinical biological molecules. They will also assist in technology transfers to internal manufacturing sites.

Responsibilities

  • Perform process development for pre-clinical and clinical processes
  • Document experiments, results, and findings in electronic laboratory notebook
  • Read and understand scientific literature and technical documentation
  • Execute experimental plans to verify literature findings with direction
  • Prepare comparisons of internal data to literature for review with manager
  • Maintain instruments and tackle instrumental/experimental problems
  • Develop technology and automation to increase process throughput and efficiency of preclinical manufacturing
  • Support improvement initiatives
  • Present work at group and department meetings
  • Build relationships within subgroup to support shared goals
  • Train peers and indirectly lead, guide, and assist co-op students/interns
  • Proactively assist others in execution of experiments and know when to ask for help from peers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or Biochemistry
  • 0 - 3 years experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry
  • Strong fundamental understanding of various protein purification and technology transfer principles
  • Experience with Downstream Development and equipment like: Akta Avant, Akta Pilot, Akta Process Skid, Disc Stack Centrifuge, Depth filtration, Tangential flow filters, Normal flow filters, Chromatographic columns, HPLC, UPLC, Ultrafiltration/Diafiltration skid, Laminar Flow Hood, Chemical Fume Hood, Empower, Unicorn, JMP, LIMS, PI Historian
  • Experience with robotic liquid handlers, Raman spectroscopy, and/or software programming

Qualifications

  • Initiative and drive to complete ambitious tasks and learn new technologies
  • Contribute to lab equipment maintenance and safety to create a safe, effective, and efficient working environment
  • Able to anticipate and recognize potential problems with laboratory supplies/equipment and act to prevent and tackle problems
  • Keep up with SOP training and/or compliance responsibilities

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Pay

$80,300.00 - $131,100.00 annually
