Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) seeks an Extra Help - Child Care Assistant to support classroom activities and contribute to the University’s mission of advancing social and economic mobility while shaping the future workforce.
About the role
This is an Extra Help (hourly, non-benefit-eligible) position appointed to meet casual or emergent needs. Workdays and hours vary by departmental requirements. Employees must take a 30-calendar-day break after working 900 hours and may begin a new 900-hour cycle if another position is available. Extra Help employment does not guarantee or affect permanent employment opportunities.
Out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 days of hire by providing a valid Illinois Driver’s License or state ID. All external hires undergo pre-employment screening, including criminal background checks, employment/education verification, and drug screening where applicable. Offers are contingent on successful completion of screening.
SIUE does not sponsor visas for this position and cannot employ individuals requiring E-Verify, including those on OPT STEM Extension. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Project Specialist/Teacher with classroom duties, including tutoring, implementing lesson plans, leading group activities, monitoring students, counseling, discipline, and motor skill development.
- Transport students to/from the service site and for planned activities/field trips.
- Document and secure paperwork, records, and maintain classroom equipment and supplies.
- Assist in planning and implementing activities, field trips, and other programming.
- Serve and handle prepared food and snacks.
- Support the Project Specialist/Teacher or Program Director in program communication as requested.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of credentials required by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services for employment as a Child Care Assistant.
